People seem to be having mixed opinions on this event and since it's completely new to the franchise, I thought it might be a good idea to have a separate thread for people to sing the praises/bemoan the existence of Gymkhana. Personally I'm really enjoying it though I wish they'd tweaked the difficulty to make it more forgiving than the other events since it seems to require a very different skillset and much more finesse. What does everyone else think?

DiRT 3
Game » consists of 12 releases. Released May 24, 2011
Dirt 3 is the latest installment in Codemasters' long-running Colin McRae Rally franchise. The game returns to the series' rally roots with dynamic weather, a career focusing on team-based racing, as well as introducing the freestyle event: Gymkhana.
Are you enjoying the Gymkhana events?
I've had some fun with it but I'm terrible at it, especially using a steering wheel. I pull out my gamepad for the gymkhana events and still turned it down a notch.
It varies the gameplay, it's a mode where you get better with practice. I also like the drift events, they're swell!
Some of the multiplayer Party modes are crazy, I got into a game of CTF last night, had a ton of fun.

Rally is the most fun part of Dirt 3 for me, but gymkhana is great as well. I played it with a gamepad and it was fairly easy really (to win at least). Since I started to play with a wheel and using the hood camera, it has gotten way tougher. I think it's more due to the camera than the wheel, since not seeing where the wheels are make things like drifting more difficult.
It's a superb diversion from all the other events, makes things feel fresh since you have to play completely differently from the other modes.
I hated them when I first jumped into them, but after learning the skills and getting better handling the obstacles I really love them, I like the freestyle aspect of it the most.

I really appreciate the assist during Gymkhana. I didn't realise it was there until I watched TNT but now it allows me to play the Gymkhana events at almost the same difficulty as I play all the other events. I don't really need it for spins or drifts but it's drastically improved my donuts because I was never sure how far away from the centre of the donut i needed to be.
Right now I dislike them. They should not be part of the seasons but just a side thing you can whenever you feel the need.
I have a hard time doing the spins and really wish the game would have given better instructions on how to do them.
Right now I prefer Dirt 2 as it just felt like an overall better game.
I disliked it at first because I thought it was too hard. Turns out, I thought the A button was for handbrake and it is actually for downshifting. Once I got the right button, I got much better at gymkhana and therefore enjoyed it mroe.
No. I can't stand it and I'm at the point now where I can not progress without getting at least third on an event and I'm about to put the game on the shelf permanently rather than waste my time trying to do this piddly goofy ass bullshit. The tutorial is for shit. "I'm Ken Block. Drive your car around this stuff and do shit and stuff!". I want to race in a racing game. I don't care for the drifting bullshit, either. I'm not a car enthusiast, but I didn't know rally racing was all about this crap.
I don't care for them. I do like how other than the tutorials, you aren't required to complete them to continue the championship. Also, they are only like 90 second events. So if you want to 100% complete everything just drop the difficulty down to the lowest and do one donut and you win.
I will admit that I thought the X button was for handbrake so no wonder I was having such issues with the event. Now that I got the right button, I'm ok with having to do them.
I mean isn't X the handbrake for nearly every racing game?
Fuck Gymkhana.
Shit is too goddamned hard, and before somebody runs their mouth about how i suck at racing games, explain to me why I have mastered Burnout? or why I smoke every fucking event in Dirt 3 except for this Gymkhana shit. It's too fucking unforgiving and the times required are fucking stupid for what you have to do. CodeMasters better release a patch for this fucking shit. seriously who the fuck can platinum these pieces of shit.
Fuck Gymkhana.
Fuck Gymkhana in the ass.
Just finished getting the achievement for scoring platinum in all the training events. Now I like Gymkhana just fine.I just busted my ass and got the rest of the Platinums I need.
Is it just me or is the Fiesta the worst Gymkhana car ever? I found that the older Impreza is the easiest one to use.
They should not be part of the seasons but just a side thing you can whenever you feel the need. ICouldn't agree more with this. Hope the next iteration of Dirt ditches this mode, or relegates it to regular singleplayer with time trials rather than have it be a requisite of completing Dirt Tour. Also, less voice narration from way totally cooool announcers (the brits are ok) and an absolute ban on Ken Block speaking another word in a Dirt game. I can barely understand him as is and while he's arguably a fantastic racer, his enthusiasm seems forced and doesn't bring anything to the presentation of the game.
I'm a pretty big sim racer, and I expected to absolutely hate the Gymkhana events, but it turns out I can't get enough of them! I love the way the Gymkhana cars handle and how damn fast they are. Never really enjoyed or been any good at drifting and tricks in driving games, but this makes the whole thing much easier and attractive to drifter newbies like me. When I first fired up the game I was under the impression that the Gymkhana events would kinda drag, so I'm definately pleasantly suprised by them. Also love the free roam collecting Gymkhana stuff so far too, countless hours just messing about, the various areas.
Wasn't a geat fan of the whole 'X games iz awesomeee' vibe in Dirt 2, but it's been toned down a bit here, and made a bit more accesible too. Still, i'd prefer a hardcore rally/rally x game, but beggers cannot be choosers!
It depends on how I am for that event. If I can find a good rhythm and hit everything in a nice flow - I really don't mind them. I think they all should have been the medal type matches - where yes you can get platinum but I don't want to worry about getting first so I can clear a tournament.
i like gymkhana a lot, i finished all the challenges in the first 2 battersea locations and had a lot of fun with them
its tough learning all the doughnuts and other tricks, but once its done its a lot of fun
