Fantasia is great!

So it's fantasia with shitty music (Except for queen)?

Basically my feelings on this. I love Harmonix and wanted to support them in whatever they did post-RB and DC but a Kinect game featuring modern pop based on a movie that used a lot of awesome orchestral music does nothing for me at all.

While I kind of agree, I have to imagine that some classical pieces will be making an appearance as well. It would seem ridiculous not to. Plus the more I've mused on this, the more I think it's a pretty rad idea.

@selfconfessedcynic: I'm pretty sure they said the 15 games were Xbox One exclusives. Fable 1 HD, Fantasia and Halo: Spartan Assault aren't Xbox One exclusives.

I'd like to think so, but their actual statement on it was very wishy washy. It was along the lines of MS studios is working on many games and will release them in the first year of the xbox one, but they don't actually say that all of them are for the xbox one.

That trailer just makes it look like dance central.....

Also the music also instantly made me not interested anymore. Then again what i like about fantasia (visuals and music) wouldn't make for a great interactive experience or it wouldn't be to a wide enough audience.

My thoughts exactly. That trailer doesn't have anything to do with Fantasia other than the name. If they really wanted to do a faithful adaptation of the film it would have to be classical music. But with that being said I totally get that it's easier to sell the game with shitty Bruno Mars music than with awesome classical music. It is fair that it works like that? No, but business is business. But judging from that trailer this doesn't have anything to do with Fantasia. This could just as well have been another Dance Central.

Another Harmonix game that I won't buy because Kinect.

Another Xbox One exclusive that doesn't convince me to buy the system.

So which John do we yell at? Both? Hopefully it was just a terrible, terrible trailer and the actual game has some redeeming values.

Has to be pretty bad if they can't even get youtube to like it. From the trailer, they made it way too easy for a consumer to write it off as another dance central with some tacked on disney stuff. A bland trailer like this doesn't help any game, but they really needed to show what distances it from DC, and how the whole Fantasia part comes into it.

I'll be cautiously optimistic.

The phrase "Harmonix are making a Fantasia game" peaked my interest, of course.

That looks like it'll be lots of fun ,especially at parties just to leave on in the background and let whoever steps in front of the Kinect play. Can't wait to play it!

I just read the Polygon article and it looks like each level is a big interactive environment where things make sounds and play parts of different songs when you touch them in certain ways. You basically fuck around with everything and mix all of it together in real time. It seems like Rez & Electroplankton + Pokemon Snap or something.

Still, imagine how important Fantasia would seem if it had been full of popular music from the year it came out.

@jdh5153: who has that kind of space at a party? RockBand was already a pain, and you only needed the floorspace for a drum kit. dance central was impossible.
