    Overview

Disney's Beauty and the Beast: Roar of the Beast is a Genesis-exclusive side-scrolling brawler/action game that roughly follows the events of the 1991 Disney movie Beauty and the Beast. It was developed and released around the same time as Disney's Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Quest, the idea being that Beast's Roar would be targeted at a young male audience while Belle's Quest would be targeted at a young female audience.

While Belle's Quest was a mostly pacifist affair, Beast uses his claws and pouncing attacks to defeat his foes, many of which are similarly enchanted forest fauna or the self-proclaimed "greatest hunter" Gaston. He can also use a limited number of roars to freeze enemies in place temporarily. Many of the game's challenges revolve around Beast's precious enchanted rose, which he safekeeps as a lifeline for undoing the curse that transformed him.
