    Hey dudes!

So, I've been playing this game for the better part of a month now, and fuck me am I REALLY enjoying it. I think I'm at about 40 hours in, and I'm level 13. I'm just about to do a combination of "The Blackpits", "The Sawmill" and "Bloodmoon Island". I'll admit, the game is VERY difficult though. I roll with an Avatar who's summon/Hydro, the Red prince as a Tank, Ifan as an Archer and Beast as a 2H melee/Polymorph character (simply for the CC and flight).

I haven't been this sucked into a game for a considerable amount of time though. I launch the game expecting to play for 5 minutes checking my gear, and I end up doing a 4 hour session. I think I might change Beast from a 2H poly to a dual wielding scoundrel poly, just for the extra CC really.

Is anyone else playing this since the DE came out? Any tips/advice? Any questions?

    Let's have a discussion!

Cool. I tried playing the first and could only play for about four hours until I got super bored. I haven't gotten past the first area in that game in the several times I've restarted it. I don't even want to say it's a game not worth my time considering I just haven't played enough of it, but dang is it boring to me. I wouldn't jump into two unless I played through the first, but at least critically, it's well-liked.

1 and 2 happen like a thousand years apart, if your hangup is for story/lore reasons. I'd say just jump into 2; it's a better game in basically every way.

Game is freaking fantastic, I'm very sad I ended up not finishing it. Me and two friends had time off and played it co-op like 13h a day for 4 days straight. And then we lost the save file just before work began anew T.T

Don't know how much DE has changed, but I do remember it being beneficial to have your party focus on either magic or physical because it was quite inefficient to try and break down the armor of enemies with split damage types.

I found that adrenaline is an amazing ability, and it's worth putting a point or two in scoundrel to use it on other classes.

Cursed fire can be triggered by teleporting. I learned this the hard way.

Gimmick builds are very fun to do in the game. My two handed barbarian type just stacked buffs like crazy so I could try and one shot enemies with whirlwind. It was absolutely amazing in very specific AOE situations and pretty worthless 80% of the time. :P

    Fun game!

My brother and I just got this and started playing a few nights ago. He's doing a hydro cleric (I think that's the class) and I'm doing a rogue, both as lizards. We're both really impressed by the way the environment plays such a role in fights. I'm not a huge fan of how the first person to talk to someone controls all the dialogue. I'd prefer a system like The Old Republic, personally. I DO love the fact that the narration text is voiced, which is something you don't see too often in these isometric CRPG-style games.

Does anyone have any impressions on the console version? I have it for PC, started it, but stopped because my wife and I loved the first one so much. The controls for that one weren't ideal, but they were manageable. I'm just kind of hoping they find a way to improve things (although as I'm thinking about it, I don't know how one can for games like this).

I bought it last week. My first time playing one of these types of games. It's so good. I'm 20 hours in. Still at For Joy. Playing most of it on classic, but bumping down the difficulty for some encounters. I'd rather keep having fun, than get frustrated, and quit altogether. Especially because I know I don't have the best character build, and probably could do a lot better synergizing with the other 3 characters I control.

@sethmode: FWIW, I've been playing through the game with a controller on PC, and it works relatively well once you get used to goofing around with radial menus. Inventory management is a pain in the ass, but it's also a pain in the ass with a mouse and keyboard. Can't speak to the console experience on a technical level, but it sounds like those versions are pretty well optimized.

I've been slogging through the game right now, after putting it down last year because I got distracted by other things, using the Enhanced Edition upgrade as an excuse to give it another shot. I might be willing to call it the best game to come out of the modern CRPG revival, but holy shit is it long. I'm somewhere around 50 hours into this current playthrough and I'm just about done with act 2 (which is to say I still have plenty of game to go). The writing is a significant step up from Original Sin 1 and the character building aspects are way more flexible and powerful, but there are other video games I'd like to play at some point, Larian.

Well, that first part sounds basically like our experience with the first one, just maybe a little better so that's good to know! Thanks!

Also, this has become one of those games now where I keep hearing everyone talk so positively about the story I just have no choice but to dig in and commit to it. I think that's the problem I've always had with CRPGs post basically...21 years old. I just allow myself to get overwhelmed by their breadth and depth and bounce off because of that. It's one of the reasons why Larian making these co-op is such a boon to me IMO.

@ajamafalous: In this case, it's not really due to the story (I could be wrong, but from what I understand, the story in these games aren't the main draw). I guess, perhaps, it's just because I'd like to experience what came before it. Plus, while I am not really looking to get into it any time soon, there's a chance that I might turn out to love it if I ever did get further, and the idea that I'd skip ahead to two without that knowledge, I'd be kind of disappointed. If I ever do get through the first, maybe I'll pick two up. I should also note that I have it on the Xbox One; not the PC version. I've wanted to play it more with my brother, but he never seems to want to.

I haven't played this one yet, I did play the first one. I'm totally going to play this and I'm excited to. I feel these games are slept On, they're amazing RPGs. Especially here at Giantbomb where they don't get much coverage.

So I was finding the game RIDICULOUSLY difficult. Like to the point where I was considering asking a friend who's finished to come in and help me with some fights.

A quick respec on eveyr character has made the game playable again!

I changed my 2H guy to Scoundrel/Poly to have him as a light DPS class with PURE CC. My Healer/Summoner changed to Summon/Aero for insane AOE dps and shocking people. I swapped my tank which was ALL OVER the place to have 5 points in necro, now heals for about 300 per shield toss, and more when he uses fire breath.

Trying to get one more level from Reaper's Coast before I leave. I have the vaults in Bloodmoon Isle to do, then mop up a handful of inconsequential side quests, and I'm hoping to squeeze one more level out of there, putting me to 16 before I leave!

So far the DE is my favourite game of 2018. Unless RDR beats it out

It's so damn good, and though I still haven't beaten the entire game (I'm 50 or 60 hours in), it's still one of my favorite games from the last decade or so. I really do need to see the game through since I have absolutely no reason for not finishing it other than 'life got in the way' I suppose. At this point I'll probably just restart so I can remember the various story beats, and also build more viable characters based on the lessons I learned from the first 50 hours of playing. Overall, top notch game that's super fun, insane value, and also a really good looking game too despite its genre not usually being known for visuals.

@sombre: How's the writing on Ifan and Beast? I played through the game a while ago with a friend. We ran 2 skeleton avatars(me Pyro/Geo mage with enough aero for teleport and he ran straight 2h weapons 1 shot fools). We had a poly focused Red Prince(Medusa head is busted) and Lohse as Aero/Hydro. Red Prince was cool. but Lohse is up there as one of my favorite video game companions alongside the likes of Morrigan and Garrus. And the end of her side story is one of the absolute best payoffs for a side-plot I've ever experienced.

Anyway, I ask because I legitimately think OS2 is one of my favorite games of all time. And even though I more or less have the game "solved," I think about grabbing another person and going back in with different companions just to see their stories. Also, what's different in the Divine Edition? I know they cleaned up the last zone(which needed it), but outside of that I haven't heard much.

Final thing I'll say, while it is a hard as shit game, I found that unless you were punching too high above your level, Fort Joy was actually the most difficult section of the game. The power curve is absolutely fantastic and it does such an amazing job of making your growth into being crazy powerful feel great. Going from struggling against a couple guards to decimating entire fields with meteor storms or watching my friend shatter absurd amounts of armor in 1 attack was glorious. Man, what a game.
