Crazy how many views and attention this has gotten in the past few days. Also, those comments. Jesus, it seems almost like everyone is shifting back to square one in terms of positive reception of this game again.

This was 1/100th of what I thought it would be with that title. It was actually, if anything, more intriguing than disgusting. I like the implications of the fake-ass woman and man.

    New Dante is a curse-happy, bird-flipping shithead.

New take on the same character. Similar to say movie re-makes. The original Micheal Myers compared to the Rob Zombie version of Micheal Myers are the same basic character but skewed through the directors lens In the end Dante is still a punk-ass kid who talks too much. The Ninja Theory one plays things off by being more directly vulgar while the old Date was more about being overly sarcastic and pun-laden with his responses. In the end he is still the same character he just handles things differently which is fine because this a completely different interpretation of that lore and characters. I mean they whole cloth changed some of the important details of dante's orgin. In DmC he is spawn of a Demon and an Angel while in old DMC he is the spawn of a Demon and a Human. Again, same basic concepts different lens The thing that people aren't even thinking about is that Dante has an entire game do evolve as a character his attitude very well may change by the end of the game.

Yeah, that's the thing. I don't care for this new take. I never asked for a new take, and it's actually kind of insulting that we're getting this guy as a replacement.

*Shrug* Seems like the same character to me. My only issue regarding this game is where I'm going to buy it. =p

@Demoskinos: The thing is: did they need to make Dante and his enemies more vulgar in some vain attempt to attract people like you and me? IMO, not really.

This was actually mildly amusing unlike the "fucking shithead fuck fuck" boss in the demo. I almost had to mute that out of embarrassment. Although my family did chuckle at the "fuck you (3x)" bit.

Don't know why this deserves 100+ posts, though.

Man, when I saw his face when he stopped suddenly that we was going to remember that he left Kevin at home while he's on vacation.

Otherwise, it's really nothing shocking. Pretty tame.

@Yummylee Did Old Dante ever do something as obnoxious and stupid as punching some bouncer for no reason, writing "Fuck you" on the list, and going into a dance club uninvited like he's supposed to be cool? Because when you make your protagonist do that and other stupid stuff in the name of making the series grittier and more serious, it just comes off as forced and terribly executed instead. Ninja Theory want to make a game with a story that's deep, meaningful, and insightful to the origins of Dante. If this is all they can come up with, and it doesn't get any better from here, then this may be one of the most unnecessary and uncalled for character assassinations/reboots being made in this generation.

No, but that's because we never saw him interact with regular people across the previous games within some sort of feasible reality. Frankly even if old DMC3 Dante was thrown into that situation I wouldn't put it past him to respond similarly, he would just write ''wimp!'' on there instead or something.

And seriously, Dante, and quite frankly the entire franchise, has always been a pandering ''cool cat'' of a character. I'm not going to post any more videos to prove my point because I shouldn't even need to; it's basically common knowledge that DMC is a series that has always tried to appear ''badass'' and ''extreme''. And I'm fine with that! I'm not someone who's taken a side or something, as I like both iterations -- well, I like the classic Dante from DMC3 at least. I just happen to prefer the newer version because I think he looks better from a design standpoint and that he's also got a much better voice actor. And there's less chance that there'll be a re-occurrence of something like that Lucifer weapon cutscene... Because fucking ugh.

New Dante is just as cocky and charismatic as old Dante... The only difference I can gauge between the two is the new one swears, otherwise they're both still a pair of smarmy pricks. Again, I'm primarily focussing on DMC3 Dante for the age similarity, and also because Dante in each of the other three games are all varying levels of terrible.

@Yummylee: I agree that the series was always trying to be "cool" in a sort of "so bad it's good" way, but this attempt at being "cool" unironically by Ninja Theory is not what I consider cool, not even in that way. I thought they want us to take him more seriously?...

Oh, and that Lucifer weapon cutscene? That was bad, but the one in the reboot where he trades "fuck you" with the slime lady boss thing that ended with a big "FUCCCCCKKKKK YOOUUUUUUUU" is about as bad in terms of writing.

@Nettacki: I would argue that that Lucifer weapon scene is significantly more embarrassing than the ''fuck you'' stand off. But even still, even you're willing to admit that classic Dante has a lot of terrible moments across his appearances. As or whether this is supposed to be a more ''serious'' Dante.. I dunno, they're definitely failing if that's they're goal because, as I said, new Dante acts an awful lot like classic Dante to me.

Still, the game's not out yet and all everyone has to compare to old Dante is a few trailers. And while I'm not going to state that you'll undoubtedly prefer him within the context of the full story, it feels unfair for people to write him off so quickly. We can probably at least agree on Vergil looking to be a much better character, though, right? Y'know, considering that he was barely a character to begin with.

@Yummylee: Give me one good reason why the "fuck you" stand off is not as embarrassing as the Lucifer scene. Because I'm not really seeing it.

Also, someone from another forum provided a better idea for the bouncer scene: distract him with over-the-top flourishes writing his name is super-detailed font before walking in with Lady and Trish in his arms while the bouncer is standing there confused. Alternatively, using the bouncer as a platform to leap onto the rooftop and going in the club from there.

While making a fucking heart out of the spikes in the stone thing and then finishing it with a rose in his mouth. Mix that with the awful delivery of the voice acting and... How in the Fuck could you consider Dante writing ''Fuck You!'' on a clipboard more cringe inducing than that catastrophe I simply don't know. It's not even ''so bad it's good''... it's just terrible terrible teeeerrriiibbbllllee. Like, it shouldn't even compare.

Because as ridiculous as it is (and it's meant to be over the top), it also demonstrates a great deal more creativity in the dialogue than a simple exchange of repeated "fuck you"s, which is junior high-level writing for idiots.

@Hailinel: Just because it's meant to be over the top doesn't make it funny or entertaining, though, least certainly not for me, and it went on for what felt like sooo loooong. Like, I get it Dante, this is how you to like to fuck. lol I guess? As for the Fuck You's, it didn't really faze me and I just kinda thought to myself ''Huh, that was kinda stupid. And afterwards you find out that the giant sack lady thing has an awfully vile mouth, so it at least fitted the character for as repulsive as she is. It would have been better if they used a little creativity with the swearing there's no doubt about that, but otherwise is was just a trio of Fuck You's that were brushed over relatively quickly. Whereas that Lucifer scene is just... fucking gross. Dante in DMC4 overall is just really moronic, like that Shakespeare play scene, which again especially falters due to Reuben Langdon's poor delivery.

Truth be told I've never found Japanese 'humour' in video games to be very effective anyway, and the 'crazy shit' in Bayonetta I just thought was annoying. God Hand is another particular example where I would just facepalm whenever it tries to be funny. I'm not saying I thought the fuck you thing was hilllliarous, either, but it wasn't quite as obnoxious as the flourish of bullshit that classic DMC4 Dante got up to. Which I'm sure you'll disagree to, because you like Japanese stuff.*

*Which isn't meant to be some sort of insult btw, just a clear observation on how very differently we perceive things.

You're probably just not the kind of target audience for the DMC games then if you didn't laugh at how cheesy that scene was. I was laughing the entire time just because of how self-aware the game is about its own cheese factor. But don't take my word for it, look up that cutscene on Youtube or ask around on any forums and you'll find that the majority disagrees with you in your sentiment that the Lucifer cut-scene was terrible. It's dumb, cheesy fun, magnified by the fact that the series is blatantly self aware how cheesy it is and it goes balls out for it (of course, the misconception here is that its a blanket statement for this reboot as well, which is totally incorrect because of the tonal shift of the reboot and how the story is intentionally taking itself much more seriously). I have a hunch you'd be the kind of guy who rolled your eyes through the majority of Saints Row The Third/Bayonetta/No More Heroes/etc as well, which is totally fine - that sense of humor is not for everyone - but it doesn't mean that Saints Row or DMC4's goofy cutscenes were terrible just because you thought they weren't up to snuff.

@Brighty: I thought SRTT was hilarious actually, but DMC4's humour was just... shit, and annoying more than anything. SRTT was a well written, clever, and, yes, ridiculous farce, but it's down to the writing just as much as it is the randomness. That Lucifer scene was just embarrassing, with awwwwwful dialogue. To even list DMC4's ''humour'' anywhere on the same par as something as SRTT is a huge stretch I'd say.

Oh hell no, SRTT is in a league of its own. I was just giving comparable examples of over-the-top, intentionally cheesy humor.

    Different strokes for different folks.

Least erotic sex scene in a video game so far. Close ups of the guy's face and showing the wall shake is kind of cop out. They still have their clothes on. It's not as risque as that scene in Red Dead Redemption. Where Marston walks in on Reyes having sex with some random women before a mission. As for DMC as a game, I enjoyed playing the demo and I think that Ninja Theory is heading in right direction. I don't think that the controversy over this sex scene is as loud the one for Dante's redesign.

I think the "Fuck You" part is blown a bit out of proportion. It is such small parts to the rest of the stuff we have seen in the trailers and cut scenes. So I never understood how these parts where supposed to hold weight against his character as a whole. The rest of it is all subjective and whether or not someone thinks he is less cool, cooler or not cool at all and I think people have a problem with accepting that people like the new Dante or like him better.

Yeah, Dante ate pizza and surfed on bad guys while he dual wielded pistols in a trenchcoat. Nero had a sword that coated itself with gasoline so that he could LIGHT IT ON FIRE. That "cool cat" business makes me laugh.

Ain't a fuckin' thing I've seen from this new DmC bullshit that made me laugh.

You're right. Everyone (or almost everyone) that has loved the previous DMC games for Dante's awesomeness don't really think too highly of this grittier western take on his character. They have a problem with it because seemingly no one outside the fanbase seems to understand why they dislike him.

Can we stop with this? The constant implication that the people who like this game or this character apparently aren't fans of the previous games. It is such a shoehorned argument. I can understand why people would dislike him if I read anything that didn't seem like biased hate, but even so I am not forcing people to like him at all. It seems to me the "fanbase" has a problem with people who even like this game a little bit, since they don't enjoy it they can't possibly see why someone else would. And they'll try so hard to convince people not to.

Judging from the demo and ANYTHING surrounding this game it just seems average on the gameplay side.

That and the characters and story seem really fucking bad.

I wouldn't compare it to ninja gaiden 3 as it isn't THAT far from the originals but....Devil May Cry 2 could be a proper comparison.

This is a very large assumption to make about a very large set of people, there's a high probability that you're wrong about how much of the fanbase cares as much as you say. Vocal minorities.

For myself I've been an on again off again fan of DMC, I like the over the top ridiculousness. It's so crazy and so excited about being so crazy that it's hilarious. Like a guy doing some crazy skate ramp jump between buildings while screaming, with a maniac smile and throwing up double devil horns. You can't help but laugh and smile. New game seems like the a different guy doing the same trick but totally straightfaced and easy. Sure it's technically just as impressive and the parts are recreated but it's just not the same you know?

On topic example, a sex scene from the original DMC team probably would have been absolutely bonkers, like falcons in a mating death spiral or they're each suspended from nearby ceiling fans or something, I don't even know. At least that's how I feel

@Shingro:If old DMC had a sex scene, it would probably take a page from the anime adaptation of Fate Stay Night. (You know, with guy going into a cave containing a crappy cgi dragon that's supposed to represent the girl's virginity or something)

I put fan base in parenthesis for a reason. I am talking about a specific group of people, the person I quoted.
