@Oldirtybearon: so do we need to keep bringing her up for your 'getting dat paper' scenario to occur? I mean if the people who donated to the series feel this way and complain enough fine but why do people like you care?
I know why the people on 4chan/reddit care, because they were the catalyst of her getting so much money in the first place, but why do you?
(I didn't donate either because I'm not going to fucking donate for a video series because I am not an idiot)
I care because I don't like seeing bad people get away with shit because good people can't be bothered.
if those 'good' people can't be bothered to take the time to demand their money back, why the fuck do they need it/should they get it? It obviously didn't mean much to them in the first place.
the only ones who keep bringing her up are mostly the people that didn't donate.
edit; you are white knighting those people, you know :)
(oh how I've waited for the proper time to use that term)

Like I give a shit if you call me a white knight. I'm still baffled and waiting for a satisfactory explanation as to why you, the great Giant Bomb Crusader of Morality, see no issue with what this woman pulled.
It's like you're dodging the question or something.

Well.. it has women in it. So that's probably a major reason as to why she's so offended.

So here's the thing. Since the gaming press is filled with white knights and people who refuse to call her out for not having a single YouTube video ready yet will they start to back track on DmC? This game reviewed well and currently in the mid 80's range on metacritic with reviewers.
I'm gonna say the "white knights" are outnumbered by the "death threats."
It's deplorable that Sarkeesian missed her deadline by so much but god, I am so fucking tired of that term. It's possible to share an opinion with someone and defend their position without being a "white knight". Maybe you just feel the same way!
Yes, some people take it way too far, to the point that they're clearly just arguing more in defense of the person than the idea, but my god, don't just start calling goddamn everybody a white knight. I hate how fucking internet/4chan/SomethingAwful lingo makes it impossible to have a discussion because it denigrates everybody's position into "u mad?"/"stop white knighting"/"whatever, ur a troll"/"no u". Fucking children.
As a hardcore feminist, I'm finding her tweets irritating and repulsive, and they honestly bring shame to anyone who actively tries to support gender equality.

it's not constantly if this is the first thread about her in a couple months.
I wish she elaborated further. I haven't played DmC yet, just the demo, so all I can comment is on Kat's image. She does look sexualised. I don't know what other "tropes" the game does. I don't know what kind of a personality to go with her looks, or if she's self-aware of her clothes like the really deep V neck. Is she a damsel in distress?

Those aren't examples of sexism. Kat doesn't hide because shes a woman, she hides because of her traumatic past plus as a human she doesn't have any real power against the demons. And what happened to Dante's mother is for story purposes.
I do agree that the rest of the woman in the game are all just prostitutes but to be fair they don't treat guys in a good light either. The human men are all fat slobs and the male demons are assholes. I guess my point is everyone is the game is kind of terrible.
Still a great game though.

That's a really good question, and I don't mean that in a mean spirited way. I'm kind of curious as to what she has been doing since her last video. How does she get income to pay for rent and food? The only other thing her Wikipedia says in ways of work is an essay she wrote way back in 2011.
@Animasta: Looking over that thread, it would seem that if you really want people to shut up about a lying thief stealing a crap load of money, you would probably be the first person to quietly x the window containing the thread and be on your merry way, wouldn't you?

oh yes, the "don't click on a thread if you don't like it" excuse.
I was wondering if we'd come to that.
What else is there to say, exactly? I don't think you'll find a lot of people that'll excuse her not making any videos (of course, they might do it in a more polite way). What exactly is your aim to make her turn over all this money? How could I, if I wanted to, help, exactly? bringing her up constantly?
it's not your fucking fight. You didn't donate money. If the people who DID donate money want to band together, than fine, but you donated shit, I also donated shit, and yes it's sad that people donated money to someone who might've scammed them (or at the least is super fucking slow) but that happens.
Are you seriously trying to argue that a female character getting murdered is sexist and degrading against women?!@hakunin said:

She tweeted she hates the game because its filled with misogynistic tropes, now I'm no scholar, so i went to look at the definition of misogynistic, turns out its literal definition is the hatred of women, thinking back through my time with the game so far and i've not finished so again i could be wrong but no one; at least overtly hates women so i dug further and apparently a new modern wave of feminism subscribe to a theory that men in a patriarchal society veiw woman as two things mothers or whores. whores being "woman who dont live up to the abrahamic standard of moral purity"
now with this theory in place i can see that yes the game certainly does hold these values as in the game the only woman that is depicted in any sort of non sexual way is dantes mother, all other supporting females are either dressed provocatively or displayed openly as concubine whores with Dante himself falling to another of modern feminism because he is a "womaniser" as displayed in the opening few scenes.
Now here is where i chime in with my two cents and i could be wrong because unfortunately Anita did not expand much beyond her text that she hates the game because its misogynistic so this is all theory crafting, im guessing that Anita hates that the game features a concubine in the opening scenes because lets face it this is a woman in servitude to a male oppressor for the sole goal of pleasuring him but where my opinion and Anitas differs is where she sees a woman i see a demon and where she sees servitude i see a controlling power, an almost equal voice.
sometimes you just have to look at the other side of the fence and see what other people see, I can certainly see where Anita is coming from, she sees the female characters and their role in the game and notices that they appear as sex objects or less powerful than their male equivalents but for me i tend not to think about things in terms of man or woman and look at characters as just people and thats what i dislike about modern feminism is that it assumes everyone thinks in these terms and picks apart characters for those traits which go against the theory they subscribe too and parade it as proof that these characters are the work of a misogynist society when as a whole the characters could be considered strong and well rounded.
I just want to add that I believe woman deserve an equal footing in society, my dislike of modern feminism should not be construed as a misogynistic attempt to waylay any work towards building a better future for everyone because im not blind to the fact that in society women can at times get the short straw but i don't believe picking apart video games is the answer, we need to crack down on societies where woman cant go to school, where woman can't progress further up the tree than middle management, where they get paid less for the same job, things that make a difference in the real world.

What I didn't miss (because it wasn't there) was the the description of what it was that made Dante's mother and Kat into "one-dimensional sexual playthings".

I would just like to point out that I think Nariko and Tripp were two of the best examples of female characters in video games. Therefore I am going to disagree with her even though I haven't played the game, because I have magical hypocrite jerk powers.

someone on these forums recently said something to the effect of appealing to a definition being the last line of defense from someone who's wrong. so i can disregard your whole post because you cited a definition. can you believe that shit? what an idiot. that bloody booby torso article was a fucking minefield.

Which is probably why she's so damn "popular": people want to discredit all types of feminism, so they cite the more extreme versions as representative of the entire social movement. Why do you think bra burnings are even a (very ironic) concept?
