Doom + Doom II

2D Characters in a 3D Scenario

Games where the characters are 2D bitmap images (sprites), but the environment and scenarios are made in a 3-Dimensional space. This technique was commonly used on consoles like the PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Nintendo DS. Many 90's First-Person Shooters and early 3D RPGs also used this technique. Some used it as a stylistic choice like Paper Mario and Rakugaki Showtime.

Arachnotron

These are mini Spiderdemons. They are much more common and they attack with plasma

Arch-Vile

One of the more infamous demon enemies in the Doom series, introduced in Doom II. They can resurrect other enemies, and cast a fire spell that is impossible to evade.

Baron of Hell

These baddies were originally the boss of the original Doom's first episode, but they would become normal enemies in Doom II.

Boomer Shooter

A genre of FPS games that was popular in 90's. Later went through modern revival of this sub-genre since 2010s. Since modern renaissance of this Old-school FPS, they are either designed to play like 90's classic shooters and follow the philosophy of these FPSs. sometimes for retro design accuracy, modern developer would built their old-school modern FPS using game engines from that era.

Cacodemon

A powerful demon from the pits of Hell which specializes in spewing ball lightning from its cavernous maw.

Cyberdemon

This guy was originally the boss of Doom's Episode 2, but they would become a normal enemy in Doom II. They are the most powerful enemy in the series.

Demon

Demons are generally creatures of evil, usually from Hell, who are often totally untrustworthy even when they're not murdering everyone and destroying everything in their path.

Digital Distribution

The concept of purchasing media and having it delivered over the internet. No physical representation of this content is given, and although the content resides on the user's hard drive they are typically granted a license to the product, rather than ownership of it.

First-Person Perspective

First-Person is a vantage point that attempts to simulate looking through a game character's eyes. It is most commonly found in first-person shooters, racing games, and visual novels, and to a lesser extent in other genres, such as RPGs, 3D platformers, and adventure games.

HD Collection

HD collections are multiple games in a franchise that have been remastered to comform to HD standards and then put on a single disc.

HD Remasters

HD Remaster is a term to a single game that has been updated to conform with the HD standards on that console.

Heavy Weapon Dude

Enemy in Doom games, also known as Former Commando or Chaingunner.

Hell Knight

These are less powerful versions of Barons of Hell. They have half as much HP and are more common.

Kex Engine

A cross-platform video game engine.

Lost Soul

Lost Souls are annoying enemies in the Doom series that float around and charge at the player.

Mancubus

A corpulent demon capable of firing copious fireballs from its colossal arm cannons.

Mod Support

Oftentimes developers will release the tools they used to create a title to the fans that play it. This Mod Support allows normal gamers to re-define their gaming experience and share their work with the public, promoting creativity and community.

Nazi

Members of the German National Socialist Party, which controlled Germany from January 1933 unto the end of World War II in May 1945. Nazis and characters inspired by them are often used as villains in video games.

Pain Elemental

These are found in Doom II. They are similar to Cacodemons, except they shoot Lost Souls instead of ball lightning at the player. They are sometimes called Cacodads.

PS4 Pro Enhanced

Select games may have enhanced visuals, frame rate, or increases in resolution. 'PS4 Pro Enhanced' features vary by game.

Reintroduced Cut Content

Games with content that was previously on the cutting room floor but officially reintroduced and realised into the main game, a later version of the game like a remaster or updates or having a similar concept.

Revenant

Revenant - meaning "one who has returned from death" - are typically portrayed as a type of undead warrior, though there are a few games where the Revenant is the protagonist.

Shotgun Guy

A common enemy in the Doom series, these dudes will not hesitate to introduce the player to their shotguns.

Space Marine

Typically representing the elite of humanity's Space Forces, Space Marines have appeared in numerous games such as the Doom series and Warhammer series.

Spectre

They are just like Demons, except invisible.

Steam

A digital distribution service owned by Valve Corporation. Originally created to distribute Valve's own games, Steam has since become the de facto standard for digital distribution of PC games.

Steam Achievements

Valve's counterpart to Microsoft's popular achievement system.

Steam Cloud

Steam Cloud is a built in feature in some Steam games, it synchronizes game saves, settings and other data to the internet for access from any computer that has Steam installed.
