It's weird, I SHOULD care about Dragon Age II, but I don't. I love most RPG's and solid action games, I like the dialogue wheel stuff in Bio games, and cutting limbs off is always welcome. But still, I don't seem to care about the Dragon Age franchise all that much, it's too dark fantasy, unoriginal, and it takes itself too seriously. FYI, this thread is supposed to be like the unpopular opinions thread, but solely devoted to reasons why you don't like Dragon Age.
Dragon Age II
Game » consists of 16 releases. Released Mar 08, 2011
This sequel to Dragon Age: Origins features faster combat, a new art style, and a brand new, fully voiced main character named Hawke.
The "I Could care less about Dragon Age II" Thread.
I was turned off by the original game's difficulty on PC. I've wanted to go back and play it, but there were certain aspects of it that didn't appeal that much to me.
Although, in all fairness: If GiantBomb ever found a way to bring Bioware PC achievements to their site, I probably would dive back into it sooner. :P
It's was a bit too generic for me. I like medieval fantasy, but nothing really stood out for me that separated itself from the masses. Granted, you might bring up those same complaints to Mass Effect as a generic Sci-Fi story, but I felt that universe was far more diverse. Personal taste I guess. Even though some aspects don't appeal to me, I still want to at least finish the first one.
Honestly, I've not been able to complete either of the Mass Effects and, I haven't even thought of buying a DA game. I dunno, they seem like my sorts of games but Mass Effect just seems so damn sterile and lifeless, which is odd given all the work put into the main characters. Maybe its the lack of free will outside of dialog. Maybe its the lack luster combat. I dunno, but the games seem like exceedingly shallow experiences (outside of the main story/characters.) Maybe if they were a bit more linear I wouldn't judge it so harshly but I also probably wouldn't own them either...
Dragon Age just never struck me as anything awe inspiring, but that could be because dark fantasy has been done to death over the last few decades of video entertainment.
"This should be distributed to everyone.
I certainly could care less, thank you. "
I'm actually fairly excited. When I trade in MVC3, I should have about 50 bucks to spend in GAME, so I may end up getting this.
With Deus Ex: HR's release date being announced for the end of August, It's a toss-up between Civ 5, DA2 and Crysis 2...
But however will people know that we don't like it?" If you don't care about it ignore it and don't make a thread about you not caring about it. "

I doubt you've played Forklift Simulator 2011, you really want to tell me I can't make any judgments about it because I haven't played it?" @TomA: if you havent played it then how the fuck do you know what it is. "
I don't like Dragon Age 2 because it's beating the thoroughly dead horse of Tolkien fantasy even further.
How do people even make this mistake? Do people really not think about what they are writing?
I bought DA:O for my PC but it didn't run very well so I never got into it properly. Hence I have little interest in the second.
Did you intend to dive into Klingon mid-sentence? :P" @TomA: if you havent played it then how the fuck do you know what it is. you are a charlie sheen wannabe and a michael jackson imprisonator and the terminator "formter greggen sbelg"
As for OP not providing enough for reasons for not liking the franchise:
That's not a bad opinion. Seems quite personal, perhaps a better use of forum space would be a more elaborate written blog delving into the exact nitty-gritty reasons....it's too dark fantasy, unoriginal, and it takes itself too seriously.
Stating that he doesn't enjoy the game for personal practical reasons, doesn't necessarily equate "controversy". Trying to make a thread about personal nit-picks regarding a franchise, when said franchise is getting a highly publicized sequel: Kinda not pushing the envelope enough for much of anything, outside of a few agreements and people making fun about "not caring" (That graphic is priceless). Oh, and people taking pitchforks and setting the thread on fire. Or something.
It's an attention grabber, you shouldn't take it too seriously.
I could care less about what the OP thinks about Dragon Age II.
Look I get that not everyone likes a game, thats perfectly fine. But we don't need threads just devoted to saying "I don't like this game" nor do we need ones for "I like this game". These threads don't promote discussion about the game, its just about trying to validate your opinion.
I could probably care less, because I am very interested. I want it to be good but I just dont know.
I also detest threads designed just to hate on a game.
I'm joining the "I could care less" group. Sitting here anxiously waiting for the clock to strike midnight so I can start playing already!

"Are you certain you could care less?"
" @Tarsier said:I thought it was someone who was meant to put Michael Jackson in prison." michael jackson imprisonator "

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who cares a little about Dragon Age 2.
Not a whole lot but just a tiny bit.
I'll be getting MK fo' sho', though.
" you are so ignorant its not even funny. "Dragons, check, elves, check, medieval setting, check.
Point out my ignorance to me?

Starcraft? dumb aliens, check. Superior aliens, check. Spaceships, check. wtf is your point?

" @Carestrike said:But even then, I see where he's coming from. You can say Gears of War, Halo and Bioshock are all sci-fi but they're vastly different in many ways, from tone to aesthetics and so on, whereas many, many forms of fantasy media stick to the Tolkein stuff like glue. My point is totally invalidated as I hate 99% of fantasy stuff but I can't help but hear about a new fantasy game, be it Dragon Age or Elder Scrolls and in my head, immediately pin down nearly every aspect of the story, characters, story tropes etc. I can't do that nearly as well with any other genre." @DystopiaX said:Pretty much every game setting nowadays is overdone as fuck, so I guess it's just a matter of what bothers you the most. "Now I'm not exactly familiar with the entire library of games in existence, but it really does feel like the bulk of them are high fantasy. Games that are commercial successes AND Tolkien, well, that's another story.
