Dragon Ball Z: V.R.V.S. is a third-person over-the-shoulder sci-fi fantasy fighting game developed and released by both Sega and Banpresto for arcades (running Sega System 32 hardware) exclusively in Japan in 1994.
Based on the Dragon Ball manga and anime series, V.R.V.S. uses sprite scaling (among other graphical effects) to give the illusion of a behind-the-back three-dimensional fight using hand-drawn character graphics. Players control one of five heroes as they battle the other heroes (following the Super Monster Ozotto, who was created solely for this game) for control of the Dragon Balls.
While the game was distributed for use with a standard control scheme (where each player uses a joystick and three buttons), a special "deluxe edition" of the game was released in limited quantities. It uses motion sensors (similar to that of the Sega Activator) to control each fighter.
- Goku (Super Saiyan)
- Gohan (teen Super Saiyan)
- Vegeta (Super Saiyan)
- Trunks (future timeline Super Saiyan)
- Ozotto (unplayable boss, first as a carbon copy of the player character, then as his normal form)
