I'm really excited for this. I really hope this isn't some one off and that they are serious about getting through the whole thing, because three episodes per podcast seems low I think. It would be awesome if they started bringing in guests down the line too.

Back in the day I watched all of dragon ball z and honestly this might make me finally come back and watch it all again, I'll probably end up buying Kia just like Jeff and dan. I don't know if I hate this website or love it sometimes.

@rodin: Heh, yep - I just ordered the first season of Kai. I was thinking of maybe going for the original, but since they're specifically doing Kai I went with that.

Ah yeah, this is great. That would make it 55,6 podcasts, but let's just say 56.

I’m definitely going to be watching the original DBZ to follow along as it’s free on Funimation’s website! It’s also not censored and I enjoy the filler content, like Gohan’s wilderness training. 3 episodes per pod does seem pretty low but I’m looking forward to it in any case!

Can't wait. Granted it's a bit of a shame that they are missing on about 50% of the story by skipping the OG DB but i can understand since there is no official Kai equivalent for DB that cuts out all the filler and makes it HD.

I don't even really like Dragonball, but I think I might end up listening to this anyway. I need to hear about their decent down the anime hole.

Man, it's been a while since I watched Dragon Ball. Now I'm wondering if I should just rewatch the original show or Kai. I don't know if I have it in me to watch 291 episodes though, so maybe I'll just watch Kai. I've heard it's not as good though?

You should watch Kai, it filters out all the fillers and the visuals are updated, it's also more true to the source material.

I watched Kai a couple of years ago but I'll rewatch it alongside them for reference.

The sad thing is that there's no official way to watch Kai here in Brazil (that I know of) so I'm getting from a "friend".

@ravelle: I went for Kai and just watched the first three episodes. One question; How come Goku could so easily grab Raditz from behind and keep him like that to let Piccolo use his beam power, considering Raditz is much more powerful and Goku had been badly beaten just a few minutes before, yet something about that hold was so special that Raditz couldn't do shit about it. Is it just a simple explanation of "Goku was pissed about what was happening to Gohan and gained incredible dad powers"?

Not really on board for this to be honest. I feel Dan and Jeff have spent so many years building this devotion to shunning this source material that I can't help but have a bad taste in my mouth that they blatantly jump on the band wagon as soon as a really popular video game gets released. I realize it's unreasonable to get irritated for that reason. Maybe I wouldn't be if I didn't know for a fact that they both have close and personal friends who have gone to bat for the kind of absurdity you only see in anime and how narrow minded they end up sounding as a result by dismissing it outright. We're already at a point where you could break a knife on the amount of irony and sarcasm in an average piece of site content that the last thing I need is more cringey commentary about stuff from my child hood from people whose opinions on cartoons aren't as valuable to me personally.

3 episodes is kinda low, but I suppose it can change. I just don't want to be too far ahead since a podcast a week (?) will take awhile.

Between this and non-Jason members of the Giant Bomb staff expressing positive attitudes towards Monster Hunter, I feel like I've accidentally fallen into an alternate timeline where anime and obtuse Japanese games weren't points of derision for this site's entire existence. It's weird, but hey, I'm all for it.

@boonsong: It's said that Raditz lost quite bit of power since Gohan attacked him with that charged attack that hit him dead on. Thus allowing Goku to be able to hold him for just long enough until Piccolo is ready.

I really hope that they keep it up until Goku goes Super Saiyan against Frieza. If they make it that far and talk about it, I will be satisfied.

I can't wait.

@vuk49: That's a fair explanation, though it just didn't look like it affected him all that much. His armor got dented and he had to catch his breath a bit but he looked fine while Goku couldn't even stand and seemed to struggle to even keep his eyes open. I don't want to sound too nitpicky though, it's Dragon Ball Z after all, that part just kind of stood out a bit.

Is there really no cheaper way to get all of Dragon Ball Z Kai (with Japanese audio) then paying over 200 bucks for all the Blurays? Because that is crazy.

@xanadu: There were dvds released for kai around the same time ebay should be a good bet, Most of them have the Kenji OST till about half way

Hope they are able to get jason, vinny, or ben in as guests at some point. Two people discussing 3 episodes sounds like a short podcast to me.

@boonsong: IIRC that whole scene, where Goku grabs Raditz from behind and Piccolo shoots the beam, is supposed to be almost instantly. The animation takes a while, and they even talk before piccolo presses the trigger, but that is wrong. As the manga reads, Raditz gets caught by surprise due to be over confidant that Goku was already beaten and the moment Picollo sees Goku action, he fires instantly after Goku asks him too. The whole "moving try to release himself" from Goku's grasp, doesnt relly happen cause he gets shot

I'm very eager to listen to them chat about the Saiyan Saga, and for those watching the OG anime, don't forget those full episodes of having Goku just running through Serpent Road, those really sucked ass.

@boonsong: this show doesn't have a lot of logical consistency. Characters lower and gain power when it's convenient, ignore obvious decisions that would benefit them, and just flat out can/can't do/don't perform moves they did a minute ago that would help them. It's all very convenient story telling like that of a soap opera or a Fast and Furious movie.

Ugh I might actually watch along...

@sloppydetective: I just watched Piccolo blow up the god damn moon like it was not a huge deal, so yeah logically inconsistent is a good way of putting it. I guess as a kid I never realized how dumb this show really was. It's pretty cool, but dumb.

@boonsong: I am rewatching too, and had to Google after the part you mentioned in spoilers thinking "surely that must have been some sort of trick, I would have remembered something so significant, especially done so casually." but nope.
