Earlier this week, Capcom revealed that Dragon's Dogma is returning as a F2P MMO for PC and PlayStation 4.
It sounds like it's got a bit of a Monster Hunter/Phantasy Star Online design to it, where four players can gather in a lobby and venture forth, which isn't really my favorite thing about it.
While co-op multiplayer was one of the most requested features for a Dragon's Dogma sequel, I personally enjoyed Dragon's Dogma because of the ways it was different from other games, thanks to the pawn system and it's asynchronous multiplayer. The pawn system is still in place for Online, but now they serve to fill out empty slots in sessions, as well as crafters who will make consumables and other items for you, presumably on some sort of timer.
My worry is that exploration and discovery, which was such a great part of the original Dragon's Dogma, will get thrown out the window in order to homogenize the game to be another Monster Hunter clone.
At least the DMC-inspired action combat looks to still be intact, so that's always something.
According to Capcom UK, there's no plans to bring it West right at this moment.
