Curious what people will be setting up their Pawn/Hero duo to be?

Personally i will be making my Hero a magic knight because i love being the support style character that boosts the performance of my team mates by buffing them and intercepting damage where needed. I am still not sure what to make my pawn, fighting at the front lines with a pure damage warrior sounds cool but i'l likely end up competing for the same armour drops.

There are two characters I usually make as my main playable characters, and since I couldn't decide which I wanted to play as in Dark Arisen I opted to make both and have one be my main pawn.

So I'll be a strider that might develop into an assassin and my pawn will be a warrior. The additional pawns will probably be pure support.

For your main character there's no reason not to vary between all the non pure caster characters (Sorc and Mage are both terrible to play as) as you go around, of course you'll generally want a Sorc and Mage for support, third pawn doesn't matter so much except the AI kind of sucks for warriors and fighters so you might as well bring a Strider/Ranger for variety's sake. If you're min maxing it varies but Sorc is generally the most powerful pawn to have at your disposal (or several Sorcs)

I don't know I sort of bounced around last time I played but I might just go ahead and play Mage or something from the beginning. We'll see though. Sorcerer has some fucking kick-ass spells though. Its really fun to play Sorc once you get some of the later spells.

When I rented the original a few months back my hero was a Ranger that eventually changed to a Magick Archer. It was a really cool class to play with, with some really fun skills, but I felt I missed out a massive part of the combat system by hanging back and not doing any of the really cool climbing on monsters etc. So this time maybe I'll roll a warrior and see how things go.

    hmmm haven't decided yet.

I went Strider classes for Arisen and Warrior Classes for my pawn last time around. So I probably ought to mix it up.

I'm going to be Sorceror again. Killing dragons in one cast is pretty great!

My pawn will also be a Sorceror, since the more Sorcerors on your team, the faster your cast time is for the big spells!

I hope they give us some new awesome spells to play with, and give them some more utility. I'd rather not rely on Holy Weapon for dealing with trash mobs.

Probably what I'm currently at now, with myself as a Mystic Knight and my Pawn as a Sorcerer. Though as I'm wont to do, I'll no doubt switch between different classes down the line anywhoo. I've always been especially fond of playing as a Ranger, if not a Strider, for all of the added manoeuvrability and so as I can be reunited with the love of my life -- the Instant Reset ability.

Uh since I am restarting and have learned from last time... Going to stick to my original Arisen probably and go Assassin. My Main Pawn though this time will be straight Warrior. Originally she was like a really big caster but once you get higher level you find that there are very few well made/specced tank types and tons and tons of casters of all shapes and sizes.

Starting as a Mage and probably going to go either Mystic Knight or Magick Archer (I think those are the class names...). As for my pawn - I'll probably make it a warrior.

I have my pawn as a full on support gal. Sadly not many people are using her so she must suck....

She is also just geting Two star ratings for Battle and helpfullness....makes me wonder if people pay attention to support.

I was initially wanting to make a child pawn for variation sake but i keep hearing that the AI fails to compensate for the smaller melee range causing them to miss allot as warriors. Can you comment on this? perhaps its even a benefit for tanks?

I might have to change my pawn to that as well.

@questionable: Character size does effect weapon range because the weapon will scale to the size of the character.... that said.... the two handers in the game are massive. You still shouldn't run into too much problems. The offset is also that because your pawn is smaller they are harder to hit. As for missing/not missing.... the AI has it's moments no matter what. Make the pawn you want and go with it.

I'm going assassin me, warrior pawn. They're based off of characters from a story I will probably never get around to writing.

i'm not impressed by how this expansion is being handled, i'm being forced to pay a chunk of money for something i already have. why is it okay? because capcom have done this before? is there something stopping them from being able to do expansions in the normal way? because it feels like they're taking the piss.

if i do fork out for it, and it depends on how barren the rpg scene gets, right now it's not looking good, i will be importing the player / pawn set-up i ended up with in the vanilla game, after trying all kinds of combinations - magik archer / strider

man, this game is kinda intense. i thought it would be grabby grabby hack n slash, and while the combat is still fairly hack n slash you can get wrecked really fuckin fast. i got this quest to help quina, but there was this goddamn fighter bandit that kept slaughtering my pawns and i. i decided to get whatever better gear i could and eventually managed to whittle him down.

now i'm slowly moving through a foggy forest in a tightly packed group getting ambushed by wolves and some other things i can't even make out because it's also pitch black nighttime. early goings (i'm only level 9) but still, this game isn't messing around is it? it's good stuff.

i'm a strider and my main pawn is a fighter. until i get my dodge roll i'm mostly spamming the fuck out of enemies with arrows unless i know i can go melee without getting killed in two hits. got 2 other support mages with us for healing.

the only annoying things i've come across is the shitty saving situation and pawns occasionally getting omgsoexcited and running off to show me the way while getting themselves killed by all the enemies on the way.

@theht: The first 5-8 hours of Dragon's Dogma are definitely a challenge. But once you reach Gran Soren and you start upgrading your gear ect., the game gets progressively easier the more you play until the end-game content.

Yeah the packs of bandits especially the ones with sword and shield early on are a pain in the ass.
