I am not a hardcore Duke fan as everyone else is, and I am not a casual gamer, I have bought almost every major release to come out so far.
I think the combat in this game is simply fun, it feels old school and the weapons are really satisfying, especially the shotgun.
The humor can be kind of bad but the game doesn't suffer from environments being bland or the same for too long, and the game is kept varied.
The loading times can become a nuisance, but I almost never see them because I don't die a whole lot.
Suprisingly my favorite campaign of 2011 so far, however that multiplayer is such an afterthought it shouldn't be in there, all it does is piss off fans of the real dukematch.
Really is a love or hate thing, isn't it? I've seen the hard contrast of either 2's or 8's.

Duke Nukem Forever
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Jun 14, 2011
After approximately fourteen years of development, the heavily infamous sequel to Duke Nukem 3D was finally released, in which the macho Duke must damper yet another alien invasion.
I like this game.
I think your opinion is in the minority, but I've also heard a few people argue your opinion - so you're not the only one who thinks the game isn't terrible.

I'm just saying if a game is fun, enjoyable, and fairly long, isn't that all a game needs to be?
I see the opinion that the game isn't fun, and maybe those people have shooter fatigue, but we haven't seen a game quite like this in years, in a way its fresh but at the same time brings nothing new to the table, but neither do a lot of games.
Not going to defend the game that much, as it does have genuine issues that I may agree with, but I can't help but really enjoy the experience.
I'm just saying if a game is fun, enjoyable, and fairly long,For a lot of people the first 2 isn't a true statement which makes the last statement more painful for those people.
I am about half way through it and think im going to stop playing it, but good for you for enjoying this game.
I will buy this whenever it goes down to like 20 bucks. I think it will be alright just due to the fact that it's something a little different then your generic military fps these days. I would play duke nukem forever over home front as an example fuck that game.

The game is really a throwback to an older age; if you liked First Person Shooters of the 90's, you may enjoy Duke Nukem Forever, but you still might not. Regarldess, I wouldn't say the product is worth my money; and I do not intent to buy it just to play an old style FPS
Old style FPS? You actually played DN3D? DNF is no more old style FPS than the first HALO! Which it should be equaled in quality to as well! Not that Halo CE was bad, but the quality was appropriate for the time. There is absolutely no throwback to the older ages in this game. Not one.
Some people (myself included) like games that are fun, as opposed to "good"
I can't begin to explain my excitement for July 5th
But I'm sure the vast majority of people here have 0 interest, and will do nothing but shit on the game when it comes out
As far as I'm concerned it's their loss, Not every game has to be a "great" game, It just needs to be fun.
Hail to the king baby
Not every game has to be a "great" game, It just needs to be fun. Hail to the king babyBut most people don't seem to be having fun.
I think the fact is that the game isn't of great or even good quality, but it doesn't necessarily mean it can't be a fun game. I think the main people that like the majority of this game are the people that both deny critics problems, and already love Duke Nukem no matter what this game throws at them (like my brother). I do agree with some others that had said before, that if this game didn't have the Duke Nukem name on it, it wouldn't be worthy of anyone's purchase though.

That's why the forums are filled with bitching about how bad <Insert any game> is
I've been enjoying it for what it is. I recognize the fact that it's not really a great game, but I haven't found it to be nearly as bad as everyone says. I'm just glad the game is finally out, and I'm really more curious to see what Gearbox does with the series. I'd like a sequel with a proper development cycle that is more directly influenced from 3D (which I think most people would agree with). Hell, even the supposed upcoming single-player DLC has me interested if it's actual new content developed by GBX.
This thread just got way too meta for me.@HandsomeDevil said:
Liking games is for pussies.
Liking Pussies is for games.
Regenerating health, 2 weapon limit and CoD movement speed. Much of the game feels designed for Duke3D like style of play, but those elements screw it up.
Review forthcoming.
All i have to say is that fans of Duke Nukem got a royal fucking. Still surprised that there haven't been mass suicides.
It's all right. I've played worse.

that's different than duke nukem though. That game is trying to bring that "so bad it's good" B-movie flavor to games, and it looks way more competent than duke.
I disagree,
Duke Nukem (for me) has always had that "So bad it's good" B-movie flavor to it,
And it's surprising to me that people actually expected something First-rate and polished out of a Duke Nukem game
It's good silly dirty fun and that's what the duke is all about
Most people bitch about every fucking game, people didn't like L.A Noire, Crysis 2, Killzone 3, Socom 4.
Apparently no game is fucking fun anymore.
People need to lower their standards and accept that every game doesn't have a golden standard of polish, kick back and learn to have fun and stop expecting everything to be perfect.
I used to be like a lot of other people, just stop relying on critics, if you want a game buy it and enjoy it for what it is.
I liked Splatterhouse, I didn't like Bulletstorm if thats ANY contrast.
If people judge games that much and believe everything critics shove down their throats, the last game they bought had to have been Black Ops or something.
If its any indication, I bought Brink and that is an actually terrible game with an awful value, Duke sure isn't.

Duke 3D was a good game.
I enjoyed it, and I too am not a Duke fanboy, though I dug Duke3D.
This is just an old-school shooter at heart, and yeah the graphics aren't flash (though they look good in parts), but like art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
It really isn't that bad a game as most are making it out to be. DNF is better than MW2 IMHO.
I went in to play it without listening to all the hate and vitriol, and I enjoyed it. And the extras when you finish it are pretty cool too, although playable versions of the previous Duke games would have been excellent. It deserves a 7/10. I'm not saying it doesn't have flaws, but really, there are much worse FPS out there.
Brink was absolute shite compared to DNF.
