Duke Nukem Forever
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Jun 14, 2011
After approximately fourteen years of development, the heavily infamous sequel to Duke Nukem 3D was finally released, in which the macho Duke must damper yet another alien invasion.
Why im buying Duke Nukem Forever Day 1 and why you should too.
First of all, im a little embarassed to say that im really hyped for this news that Duke is FINALY coming out and it looks like the release dates got some legs since its Gearbox. Now, im going to say this right now, there is a 90 percent chance or even more that this game is going to be terrible. Terrible in the good or bad way remains to be seen, but I think its going to be pretty bad. But, should that disuade you from purchasing this game Day 1? No way.
See folks, this game has become our Yeti, Loc Ness Monster, and Sasquatch all rolled up into one. A illusive myth of a game that has been in development for well over a decade. And when this game is released, so dies one of the industrys biggest folk tales and running jokes. Its like seeing Avatar in the theaters because it took like 6 years to make and you wanted to see if it was worth all that time, only times that by ten for this game.
Like it or not, this game is a piece of game history, and who knows how long itll stay on store shelves, so it would probaly be a good idea to pick it up right when it comes out before retails pulls out on stocking it. It probaly wont sell, it probaly wont review well, and itll probaly be pretty trash, but we should buy it none the less own this game to show our children and grandchildren one day.
" @Raven_Sword: I think i'll get it, but I am sad it is coming out, it is so much better as an enigma, and folklore, then it will ever be as a game. "This except I won't be getting it.
I can't imagine that I will be owning Duke Nukem Forever in 2011. It's like pulling out the motherfucking Excalibur from the stone.
I swear to god im going to take a picture of me buying it in the store when it comes out. Itll be too surreal.
I am a little worried for this game on PS3 though. This just screams like a game that would get a shoddy port on PS3.
" I won't be buying it unless it turns out to be awesome (highly doubtful). I don't need a piece of history gathering dust on my shelf just for the sake of it. I plan on spending my money on some actually promising games next year, like The Witcher 2. "Agreed entirely.
They could make it work, all Gearbox have to do is make a stellar Multiplayer component with persistent perks and character progression. That way people will be more willing to forgive the fact that the singleplayer has been through so many underpaid hands that it will never meet the hype. Unfortunately killer multiplayer is not Gearboxes strong point.
Am I buying day 1? Yep. But will I still be playing it in 6 months? Unlikely.
I'm buying it regardless. I know I should spend my money wisely on such FPS games as Rage, and other games coming out next year too. But I've been hyped for so long, (having dived into the Duke Pool quite late, in 2001, completely oblivious to the fact that this game was 'happening'.) A few years later, I found out about this game, (2008 trailer,) and suddenly became obsessed. Not with Duke, but the whole little story surrounding the development. I've told it to my friends, they know it too. But damn. I have a feeling I'm being drawn in for the whole, "HOLY SHIT ITS DUKE LOLOLOL" factor, and I've such faith in Gearbox, (Borderlands and the ability to make better Half Life games than Valve,) I'm sure it's gonna kick some ass and chew some bubblegum.
This is like the second coming of Jesus Christ (DNF finally being released, against all odds...), but while every christian out there are at first cheering (...people can't believe their eyes and have to buy it...) they'd soon enough stone him to death (...bad reviews and flooded forums of whining...) for just being a regular dude who works as a carpenter (...a bad game with a character that wasn't even funny 13 years ago...) and got quoted out of context (...time to kick ass and chew bubblegum...and I'm all out of gum).
I'm no christian or believe in any God in any form. But I can't say I'm not excited over all of this.
That's a pretty stupid reason. I'm not wasting money on a crappy game, I don't care if it's a piece of video game history.
I expect it to be terrible, but not terrible enough that it'll be entertaining to laugh at it. I kind of expect a 5.5 Mediocre out of this one, not a 1.0 rival to Big Rigs.
Games don´t suck because they´re hyped. Games suck because they are bad. Just wanted to get that out of the way.
I don´t think Duke is going to be a bad game, everything they´ve released so far looked good if not great to me. The game won´t be a huge success like CoD or something though, because shooters have moved on.. then again I HAVEN´T moved on at all!
I want my games to be old school and dumb sometimes. Duke Nukem Forever is coming out and I owe it to myself and my misspent youth to play it.
Everyone, read Stephen Totilo's impressions ASAP. The game is not going to suck.
As a PC gamer, I feel as though it's MANDATORY for me to go to my local Gamestop, get to know the employees really well, and then con them into selling it to me a day before its release. I'll also be buying it on 360, as only having Duke on one platform just isn't enough.
THAT is how bad I need this game.
And remember, folks...needing is an adult thing.
On the fence...i've ruined the game by creating an idea of what it should be to mean anything today against modern games and unless they hit that specific mark it'll be disappointing for me.
My fear is not that it'll be terrible but more that it'll be very mediocre. Being terrible is almost like a great punchline to end it all at this point.
I'll wait on the reviews before I make a decision like every other game. I'm not treating this game any differently than others just because it took "forever" to make.
For years I've been saying I'm going to buy it on day one, and I still am. I'm so damn psyched about Duke Nukem Forever.
This game will be bad. Whether it's bad in the worst ways possible or bad in the best ways possible remains to be seen but god damnit, I'm buying it day one. There is no way I cannot.
I really hope Gearbox delays the release date just one last day at the last second, just to be a bunch of smartasses.
I don't think we can really say there's that chance of the game being terrible yet but it is kind of hard to take in that it looks like this ridiculous legend of the video game world is finally coming to an end. I probably won't buy the game myself but as I said in one of Jakob's threads Gearbox and Broussard deserve a very hearty congratulations just for making this happen.
I really don't care about this game other than to see how it stands up to the huge amount of hype. Im 15 so that should explain a lot about my lack of nostalgia for that series.
" The game will suck most likely. The hype is too big. "That's what I fear. The game may be real good, but it will flop because of the huge hype and illogical expectations that people have been building up. We'll be hearing only "Ten years for THIS? I am disappoint [sic]" in the months to come. The thing is, this final release will have little to do with the original project. It's not that it has been constantly developed throughout this last decade.
The reason why I will by this game, especially on PC, is because it brings back memories. Memories of when I finally got the money as a kid to buy this. I take it home only to find out that my computer can't run it because it didn't have 4KB of memory. That's when I had to work my ass off with my Dad to get that money to upgrade my computer. Oh man, the joy of buying the parts and putting them in my computer felt so good. (While having tears in my eyes) Thank you, Duke Nukem. I will always support you.
