Immensely satisfying and engrossing from start to finish. 0

There are so many great things in Dust: An Elysian Tail that deciding where to begin made my head hurt. The downloadable scene has certainly had some stand out titles since it began and Dust effortlessly earns its place among (if not above) every single one of them. The core mechanics that make up Dust are probably things you’ve experienced before, 2D side scrolling setup with hack n’ slash gameplay, light RPG style levelling and customisation in the form of loot and gear you find throughout the ...

Dust is simply one of the best games worth owning a 360 for... 2

It surprises me nearly every year with Xbox Summer of Arcade that my favorite games this generation and even Game of The Year came from a small $15 package made by a small group of people or primarily a solo effort like Braid, and Bastion. Dust: An Elysian Tail is no different from this phenomenon and could very well be the best game out this year. If you have a 360 and can stomach the “furry” content of the game, then you should stop reading and start this amazing journey of humor, sadness, and...

My Humble Opinion Dust: An Elysian Tail Review 3

Bastion, Limbo, Shadow Complex, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, Braid, and now Dust: An Elysian Tail. Not only does this list compile great XBLA Summer of Arcade releases, but also some of the greatest games released in this current generation of consoles. Dust: An Elysian Tail is a gorgeous game, and don’t let its ‘cutesy’ aesthetic fool you, there are some dark themes present in this Action RPG Brawler if you are willing to pony up 1200 MS points.Pony up you should, because Dust: An Elysian Ta...

    An Imperishable Achievement 0

Dust: An Elysian Tail was by in large made by one man, but perhaps more important than that, it was made as a labour of love. From the biggest AAA titles down to the lowliest freeware games, often the key element to greatness is the sense that it was made with care and attention to detail, and that the heart of its creator, or creators, is present within the final product. That this game was designed and coded by Dean Dodrill pretty much on his own, makes it all the more the case with his deligh...

Something to get lost in. 1

I'm a weird guy who likes really fucking hard platformer games. Games like Maximo, Crash Bandicoot 2 on 100 percent completion, Another World, Megaman, Tomb Raider, Castlevania, the list goes on. Dust: An Elysian Tail is a clash of all these great games that just happens to have furry characters.Except, like the others, this game is not what you’d expect. For starters, this game is designed to be played on harder difficulty settings, if that gives you any idea of its appeal. This brings on more ...

Beauty Is in the Eye of the Creator 0

Whether you view it as a visually evocative action-adventure or as a testament to its creator's talent and persistence, Dust: An Elysian Tail is a game worth experiencing.Whether video games are "art" is a question that has largely been settled, at least by anyone whose opinion I value. These days, someone arguing that "video games shouldn't be considered art" sounds like my grandfather arguing that rock and roll shouldn't be considered music. Fortunately, moving past the "games as art" debate a...

Dust: An Elysian Tail (PC) Review. 0

Developing video games is tough, even from the outside that seems obvious. It's not impossible, but it's one hell of a challenge, one that takes patience, time and talent to name just a few of the requirements to make it in the industry. So designer Dean Dodrill's accomplishments with Dust: An Elysian Tail is one to be applauded. Having developed the vast majority of this charming action adventure game himself, it's clear throughout that this is Dean's baby, resulting in a game that's beautiful,...

The great dynamic combat system makes this game a must-play 0

We're all aware that independent developer have to be imaginative. If you're dealing with a low-budget to make a game and come out with a profit you better have something good. Battlefield can excuse an on-rail shooter single player if they manage to make gamers reach orgasm by glancing at it. Independent developers need to come up with games like Dust: An Elysian Tail. Don't get me wrong, I think this game is superior to Battlefield when it comes to artistic design, but that's not all it offer...

A Masterful Game with a Gripping Story 0

I'm usually not too keen on melodrama. It always comes off as far too goofy for even me who listens to Sabaton who are just wonderful if cheesier than a pizza. Every so often however I can be taken in by a far too melodramatic story. My favorite game is Persona 4 after all so I can certainly appreciate melodrama in the right amount. The combat in Dust: An Elysian Tail is great, make no mistake, the art is breathtakingly gorgeous and the metroidvania gameplay addictive enough that I wanted to kee...

Dust: An Elysian Tail leaps onto the PC with resounding success. 0

Dust: An Elysian Tail (Dust) was originally released on the XBOX 360 during 2012's Summer of Arcade promotion and has, after a relatively short period of time compared to many other XBOX exclusives, arrived on the PC via Steam. Dust has an impressive history behind it with creator Dean Dodrill doing all the design, programming art and animation for the project -- only contracting the voice acting, soundtrack and some parts of the story -- over the course of 3½ years.Test Machine: 2010 Macbook Pr...

Dust: An Elysian Tail Review 0

This game was a long time coming. I first saw it at PAX (well PAX: PRIME, before there was a PAX East), and it won a competition put together by Microsoft, and then it kind of disappeared off the radar. Now its finally released to the public. In this artistic side scrolling RPG game you'll be playing the part of someone named Dust, a person who can't remember his past, but who fights to correct the wrongs that seem to be happening to the land and its people.Graphically this game looks amazing. ...

Xbox’s “Summer of Arcade” ends with a winner 0

If you don’t know who Dean Dodrill is, maybe I can’t blame you. He’s been in and out of the videogame industry for more than a decade, having worked as an animator on Jazz Jackrabbit 2 and having been one of the driving forces behind the never-released Jazz Jackrabbit 3D. As the story goes, Dean Dodrill simply sat down one day and decided he wanted to make a videogame all by himself. Four years later, we have Dust: An Elysian Tail, a game that, in a lot of ways, shames the work of bigger-budget ...

    Fighting in the Dust 0

Essentially the creation of one person, Dust: An Elysian Tail is an 2D action adventure game in the similar vein of Metroid and most recently Shadow Complex, with a vibrant and expansive world to traverse. You'll play as Dust, the mysterious warrior with a case of amnesia who must rely on a talking sword and it's guardian to help him fight and uncover the truth about his existence. Dust is not only one of the best games to come out during the summer of arcade promotion, it is probably my new fav...

    Top Tier XBLA Title 0

Dust: An Elysian Tail is a rewarding experience providing the player with incentive to explore areas and discover new secrets throughout a vibrant landscape, while providing a quality storyline to boot. The story of the game begins with the main protagonist, a fox-like creature named Dust, waking up in the woods with no recollection of what brought him there. Upon waking he meets a talking sword called Ahrah that is accompanied by a flying cat-like creature named Fidget who agree to help Dust on ...

Dust: An Elysian Tail: A Perfect Storm 2

As XBLA titles go, I’ve never been too pushed on them. Sure, we get some great games like Bastion or The Walking Dead series, but the more obscure games often fall through the cracks as less-than-stellar titles tend to take up space above them. However, this is not the case for Dust...it’s a damn fine game, probably my game of the year so far, it’s a real treat and a fine surprise.Even the cover art looks epic!Let’s get the obvious ‘issue’ out of the way: this is not a furry game, this isn’t lik...

From Dust to Dust: An Elysian Tale Review 0

Dust: An Elysian Tale tells a story of peace through war. You play as Dust, a man who wakes up with no memory but quickly realizes that there is more to that story. He is awakened by a quirky flying cat named Fidget. She is a protector of the sword that you will be using on your adventure. This sword is not ordinary one, and it acts a guide that speaks to you when you need it. Ahrah, your sword, will help reveal things from your past and give you a cause worth fighting for. This is the start of ...

Heart-Wrenching, Satisfying, and Just Plain Fun. 0

Every once in a while, a game comes along with all the ingredients required to make something truly special. What it takes for a game to truly stand tall above the rest, however, is that spark; that personal touch that only someone of extraordinary talent and work ethic can provide to bring those ingredients together. Humble Hearts' masterful creation, Dust: An Elysian Tail, is that game.Dust, an anthropomorphic blue fox with an unknown background, awakens in a serene, peaceful glade without mem...

    Yep, everyone is right. 1

Dust is amazing. The only drawback I would list is that the combat appears pretty shallow and button-mashy at first. Just give it some time though and it opens up a bit more. I, personally, had an amazing time trying to stay air born for as long as possible. The story, both in how it is told and thematically, are super solid. The content is actually quite mature and will, as it did me, catch you off guard plenty of times.Great game if you're a fan of the genre or not....

Dust my first XBLM Experience 0

To open this review I should state that this is not the type of game that I normally play but it won me over right from the start. This is the first action adventure RPG type of game that I have played in quite some time but being home sick for over a week I wanted a game that could enthrall me with its story more so than the usual sports games that I play. The look of the game is fantastic with each chapter having its own unique style of color and art and I kept finding myself really looking fo...

This year's Summer of Arcade has been a bastion of great downloadable games over the past couple of years. Games such as Braid, Shadow Complex and even Bastion have been clear reminders of what SOA can achieve. This year has been a bit disappointing as there hasn't been a great game to showcase the importance of SOA. I'm happy to report that Dust is said game. Dust is hack & slash game of the likes of such games as Odin Sphere and Muramasa: The Demon Blade. The game mostly relies on quick re...

Very moving soundtrack, well worth your time 0

Let me first by stating that this is everything I wanted Odin Sphere to be.This is a semi open world 2D RPG with mechanics not dissimilar to a fighting game.- Great art style, the game is gorgeous- really fun/ in depth mechanics in dealing with enemies- the soundtrack, my goodness, I listen to it while playing other games due its epicness.I believe this game suffers from the Psychonauts syndrome. Highly critically acclaimed, however no one heard about it.This is a beautiful game. I recommend to ...
