    Is E3 worth going to?

This is a question aimed more towards those that have attended in the past.  I have the ability to get credentials for E3 this year, I've never been although had always wanted to for almost 10 years now.  I would be traveling from Chicago for it if I did go.

The thing is, I'm not sure if my expectations for the event are too high.  Is it actually a fun event to go to, or is it just like any other trade event where it's fun to walk around for a couple of hours but by the second day you're annoyed by everything and worn out?  Are there a lot of panels to see and are they at all interesting?  Or would I be better off going to something less 'industry' such as PAX?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Why on earth wouldn't you? It's E3! Admittedly it isn't as awesome as mid-late 90s E3 supposedly was, but it's still the show as far as video games are concerned.

E3 is certainly different than it used to be. It may not be good or what you expect, but you'll never know unless you go. You have an opportunity that others would love to have, I'd say don't waste it!

Just what kind of credentials do you need for E3, anyway? Curious...

I so bad want to go to E3. But since I live in Norway it's not that easy to attend. Cause then I would have to get a plain ticket and get my ass to the US.

Yes; I went there last year, and despite a bevy of work, it was still worth it, in my mind.

From what I hear, it's not really all that spectacular unless you're a recognized member of the games press or some retail company. You won't get to see everything, but I'd still say it's worth it if you want to go.

As far as I understand you just have to be "in the industry" in order to be admitted. This can be everything from an executive at Activision to a video game blogger to a Gamestop manager. The entire website Destructoid was created as a ploy to get its creators admittance to E3 2006. And it worked. So, as long as you have some relation to the industry and the means to get to LA it shouldn't be too horribly difficult to get in. Especially with the return to the general format of the olden days.

As for how much you'll get out of it it's E3. Just being there for the experience and chance to see first hand all of those crazy booths, getting hands on with upcoming major games, and the personalities walking around would be worth it to me. Sure, you arn't going to be getting into the major press conferences or anything but that place is so huge I think you'll be plenty busy.
