Eidos Interactive announced on February 15, 2007 via a press conference that Montreal would be home to a new studio for the company. This studio will work on AAA titles for the new generation of consoles; the PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. The Studio is headed by general manager Stephane D'Astous. Employees would finally move into their permanent offices on the 6th floor of the Gordon Brown Building in October 2007. The studio remains one of the few through which the Eidos brand lives on after the company's acquisition by Japanese company Square Enix on April 22, 2009.

The studio's first title was announced in November 2007 as Deus Ex 3, a new game in the Deus Ex franchise. The game was later revealed to be a prequel to the first installment in the series and its official title would be Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The game was released on August 23rd 2011 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

On May 11, 2009 Thief 4 was officially announced to be in development at Eidos Montreal. The title had been in development for a little under a year as of the announcement as hiring for the project began in June 2008. The game was released on February 25th, 2014 for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

In October 2007, the Quality Assurance department was created. The first game to be tested at Eidos Montreal is Death Jr II: Root of Evil for the Nintendo Wii. Since then, several high profile titles were tested by the QA department, including Batman: Arkham Asylum, Tomb Raider: Underworld and Just Cause 2.

The studio was purchased from Square Enix by the Embracer Group in May 2022.
