@zella: It's definitely going to be weird with SFV coming out in March 2016. Will they stick with USFIV for the first few months of 2016 and then switch over? Will they change the CPT to start when SFV comes out? Will the 2016 CPT start at the regular time with a pre-release build of SFV?

@starvinggamer: I don't think Ultra can be the main event realistically, that doesn't sell and they've got vaguely serious competition for the first time in a long while. At best it will be the equal event or something.

The combo at 6:38 is the most ridiculous shit. This and Thunder God Raiden are both just totally bonkers and it's interesting how the VH comp more or less aligns with the tier list (Tanya is also quite difficult). Only took like 30 tries to get the first win, though I could do better with Pyro or Dragon Naginata I'm sure. But yeah if you can't find anyone good online/in person to fight against this is definitely a way to go, the comp does read inputs so you'll almost never land anything off of an initial block, but it does make the game more about the matchup advantage, blockstrings (good luck blocking Raiden), punishes and so on. Seems like you can bait Cassie into starting an overhead then block it but it's hard to get anything off of that, so maybe the best bait is to get them to start the overhead then do a fast string to interrupt it.

Sometimes the comp will always block or low profile the wakeup EX teleport, sometimes not so I wasn't really doing it that much at this point, but it wound up being pretty crucial in the end.

Is this the thread to talk about SF5? Or is there a separate thread for that hype train? Search wasn't finding a thing. :(

Did folks get to check out the two tournaments yesterday? I won't list the winners, but players like Li Joe, Clockwork, and Gootecks were all competing to win a PS4 on the stage. Some extremely hype matches.

Also, I really hope we get more characters for the beta. I want to see Alex or Urien return. Right now I'm leaning towards the Bipson pressure. J wong made him look too sick!

@zlatko: I'm still guessing we get at least 6 of the 8 Vanilla characters (if not all 8) so there's not a ton of room for Third Strike characters and a couple of entirely new characters assuming 16-20 altogether; but I wouldn't be surprised to see some third strike character or other. Bison seems super strong as does Birdie, Charlie seems somewhat difficult to play in the context of SFV, Chun Li seemed really good just no one played her, Cammy seemed easy to block based on what Combofiend said so despite the damage output I don't think she's that good. Ryu is pretty good if you can't parry everything and ridiculously amazing if you can.

I'd say Ken, Sagat, Zangief, and Balrog are almost guaranteed, Honda, Dhalsim, and Blanka are all quite likely as well. Guile is a tossup I suppose, shouldn't be overly surprising if he's in it. Akuma is probably in the 75% range. So that leaves 3 (or 7) spaces assuming no Guile, 2 new characters probably and 1 question mark, unless Capcom considers Birdie/Nash new characters. Decapre is my sleeper include right now, a lot of people play that character and V trigger would just make her even more retarded.

No one cares about Vega except Zeus and Mao.

It's way too early for me to start contemplating SFV stuff. The SFIV tournament play is just too damn good.

@hassun: That's true but it's still fun to put odds on the character inclusion, think of it like your tournament picks except not always picking the favorites (aside from Jwong)!

In the prelude to SEA Majors this year everyone should rewatch the grand finals from last year arguably the best overall match from last year, when Kazunoko/Yun was (albeit briefly) considered the best and Momochi was considered merely top 10 (he went through like 12 people in losers):

Of course Ken pre Ultra was considered mid tier and is now almost universally considered top 5, though only Momochi shows that.

@fredchuckdave: I'm thinking we'll get Alex in it. I'm also wondering, with the whole view of making every character unique, if we won't get Ken and have Ryu as the sole Shoto. I can see it following the path of 3 and having some huge omissions, only to have them added in later updates.

@alkusanagi: They can include Ken and just have him play differently than usual, simply having a fireball/DP is not going to be something unique in the game.

When it comes to how Ken will be in SFV I can see him being much more offense focused than Ryu. Ryu looks pretty slow all around so I think it is likely Ken will have a much faster walk speed and more normals focused on pressuring the opponent. Would bet his V-Skill is something more offensive like Cammy and Chun's skills which get them in close. I wouldn't be surprised if Ken is the only other Shoto in the game though, maybe Sagat in there too but I could see Capcom leaving him out until Super SFV.

I am mainly just hoping we don't end up with new characters in the same league as IV's. In both visual design and gameplay gimmicks I found plenty of the new cast pretty rough. I think at best the roster will be 1/3 new characters, likely around 1/4. With all the fan outcry for returning characters it is pretty easy to justifying bringing back a bunch of Alpha and 3S characters to round out the roster rather than having to design whole new characters.
