So I've never played Fallout 1 or 2 (I was a JRPG fan during the 90's) but I LOVED Fallout 3. So lately I've been wanting to pick up the earlier Fallout's......But I've been contemplating some things.. Which one should I get Fallout 1 or 2.

But truly hardest question I've been faced with is.... Should I even pay for them?? Yes, yes I know what your thinking "Of course you should pay for them and help then Developers!!" But.......I find it so hard not to just think of Torrenting them. I've paid for ALL my games, I mean all. I PAID FOR PROTOTYPE!!!!!

    I think I get a freebie :)

While I do sympathize with you paying for Prototype, I think you should still purchase Fallout.

If you can get the collection cheap then get that (last time I saw it the price was £5) or get them from Good Old Games (gog.com) for $5.99 I believe. They are worth the price.

Fallout's cheap, might as well support GoG, it's CDProjekt running it, so it'll fund The Witcher 2.

Why buy it? Torrenting it would be free, faster, and better for the environment! Why buy a plastic case? but you know, piracy is bad, etc...

Keep in mind 1-2 are completely different games than 3 ie: Not FPS
And tactics is again a whole other animal.

With that said, All three games are AMAZING
And they all come in one cheap package on steam.

Torrent it.  It's free that way and it is a better deal.  However, you will lose cool points by doing so.

I don't know what's up with you people and hating on prototype so much, it wasn't THAT bad. Won't say it was great though.

Just get the collection, it's cheap. Although if you pirate it, i don't think there's a major loss, no idea how it works, but the whole license of the game going around and stuff, no idea who the money goes to.

Go for GOG, but be wary, they've got a lot of good stuff for cheap and it'll eat your wallet fast if you let it.

Just want to clarify: you do know that Fallout 1 and 2 are NOTHING mechanically like Fallout 3, right?  Fallout 3 is more of a sequel to Oblivion and Morrowind on a mechanical style.

As for which to get, I would start with 1, and then play 2.  Always harder to go backwards in a series.  And of course you should pay for them.

Suck it up and pay the $6 or whatever it costs on GOG, or you could buy one of those shady EU collection disks like the one I have. It's not exactly expensive, so it's not like you are gaining much through piracy.  Fallout 1 is pretty good. Not a fan of F2 though.

I would be willing to pay a full $50 USD for Fallout 2 if it were released today, having never experienced it but somehow knowing how important and wonderful the game would be for me.

Yea I didn't finish it but it wasn't bad a lot of the powers were really cool and getting around the city was a lot more fun than it was in Infamous but it didn't really have the level of polish that Infamous did, so disappointing I was looking forward to that game for so long, it could have been something really special.

As there's no accompanying reference as to how or why it's free and as fileradar is just a blog linking to illegitimate P2P / Webhosters who provide a whole lot of pirated warez, I'm gonna say that this 'article' is actually just a user submitted contribution linking to warez.  The lack of intro video makes it pretty clear it's a scene release from the 90s.  Therefore not legit.

Both are great games so I suggest getting 1 and 2

F2 is my favorite game of all time bar none, must have played through it over 10 times.

Why *wouldn't* you, they're not exactly that expensive to get anyway. Both are $6 at GOG. I haven't played F2 yet, but F1 is great; having said that though, prepare to be playing something vastly different from F3.

If you want a freebie there are many, many other games you an legally get for free. Have a look through this thread.

I've got five copies of Fallout, three of them in boxes (1,2 and a compilation which has Fallout 1,2 and Tactics), two on GOG (Fallout 1,2). Yes, buy them on GoG.

I bought the first one through Amazon. I shoulda patched before I started playing, but regardless it's an interesting cheap game. Resorting to torrenting when the game is available digitally and physically is just sad.

I would strongly recommend that everyone who is thinking about getting the old Fallout games to buy them through GOG. It's cheap, you get a ton of extras, you're supporting CDproject and the creation of good games. You'll also help encourage other publishers to release their old classics. You can't really go wrong :)
