It's $65 up here in Canada for the Fallout 3 GOTY Edition, and I've somehow managed to entirely avoid playing Fallout 3 completely. I never really got into the whole Fallout franchise, but I've been pestered by many to play it so I'm thinking of finally caving into a purchase.
So is the GOTY Edition still worth a good purchase? Or should I just pass over the GOTY and opt for a used copy of standalone Fallout 3 for cheap?
Fallout 3
Game » consists of 45 releases. Released Oct 28, 2008
In Bethesda's first-person revival of the classic post-apocalyptic RPG series, the player is forced to leave Vault 101 and venture out into the irradiated wasteland of Washington D.C. to find his or her father.
Is the Fallout 3 GOTY edition still worth buying?
I would say it is a good purchase, however you would have to be tolerant of some bugs that exist within the game in places. If you already knew this (as Bethesda games generally are buggy), you will find a pretty solid game. Also the DLC really helps to make your exploration in the Wasteland more interesting and (possibly) easier.
I'm assuming you are getting the 360 version, though if you are thinking of getting the PC version and are into modding, there are some great mods for this game too, increasing the game's already large longevity.
" Yes, it is definitely worth it, especially with all of the DLC. "This! I have only put 60 hours into the game, sadly.
" @ShiftyMagician: What sort of glitches and bugs are we talking about? (hopefully spoiler free) "Freezing is the worst. I played the PS3 version, and it didn't happen a lot, but it could be devastating when it did. Save often!
I've also experienced a lot of minor graphical bugs. It's really not a big deal most of the time. Why are you still here? GO BUY IT! =D

Stop. Stop right now. Either you want to play it or you don't, don't let anybody decide for you. If you're curious, get it on Gamefly or rent it somewhere or something, but don't buy it if you've never played any of the Fallout games before.
You betcha it's worth it. I picked up a GOTY edition for the PC earlier this year and it's awesome still. I had the regular 360 version before that.
When I had to make a similar decision recently, I decided to purchase only the less expensive standalone version of Fallout 3.
I'm playing the game on the PS3, and everything that I have read suggests that the freezing is only really bad on the expansions (even to the extent that some of them are basically unplayable). I have heard, however, that the issues are not as bad on other systems and that the degree of freezing varies widely from person to person. Ultimately, your decision should probably depend on how much patience you think you will have if the GOTY ends up freezing repeatedly.

Get the GOTY version and play it while you wait for the New Vegas GOTY (I am NOT going to spend 110 dollars on another Fallout game.....is what I keep telling myself)
" Yea if you havent played Fallout 3 yetGet that shit son cant wait for new vegas "OMG that avatar, it is ELI!
" @floodiastus: I got one question Mayne tell me who next "Haha, that clip cracks me up, I just love that "relaxed" presentator too. It's like the whole room watched too many ghetto-flicks ;)
