I know the mod tools haven't been out long, but what are the best mods around atm?

I've seen various tweaks but nothing I would want to add yet - hopefully people will start making new quests

I haven't seen anything really significant yet. But it shouldn't be to long.

Better Arsenal mods contain nice weapons, and there is also a mod called cross repair. Which make more weapons compatible with eachother.

^ What he said. Just go to Fallout Nexus and browse around. I'm sure you'll find something you wouldn't mind having. Whether it's a necessity or not is irrelevant.

Personally, I've only found two things that really stand out. And one that I find that's needed is DarNified UI. The other, which is just hell of a lot of fun, is Enclave Commader - just watch this video.

The ones that balance the game and make it way more fun than it is now.

Making weapons compatable with each other.  That would make the game WAAAAAAY too easy

The nude mods, man.

I just downloaded the textures fix mod and nothing else, well, actually I havent touched the game ever since. Got bored with it faster than I expected, I repeteadly got the same glitch, were I would go back to the exit of Vault 101, at the beginning of the game, with only my side stats recorded, no SPECIAL, no equipment, nothing, not even levels. That along some crushes and a never to come patch from the looks of Bethesda drove me away from it
Im talking about the PC version, and if anybody wants proof about the glitch I mentioned, just let me know and I will upload the save.
