Fallout 4: Automatron DLC Review (Xbox One)
Fallout 4’s first DLC, Automatron, added the new cool and interesting feature of building a robot, however on the grand scheme of things, left a bad taste in my mouth for the feature of Fallout DLC and Bethesda DLC in general.
The main story revolves around someone named the Mechanist, a person who’s been controlling some of those deadly robots around the Commonwealth. Your character learns of these robots through a caravan who got attacked by the robots. The sole surviving robot, Ada, guides you with the DLC’s three lengthy quests to find the Mechanist and end the tyranny once and for all.
While the story isn’t terrible, there was really only one character that I liked (and it’s personality only lasted for about ten-twenty minutes). The ending (depending on a choice I assume) is also kinda odd, especially considering the Mechanist’s attitude against you and the overall goal of the Mechanist’s plan. It’s very stupid and expected I suppose considering that this is a Bethesda game after all.
The one and main thing that really caught my interest with this DLC were the ability to create your own robots. This system works very similarly to how you customize your power armor in a way. You can mix and match any type robot part, as well as add perks to increase the durability, amount of carry weight, and defense it can hold. You can also change the color and even it’s voice! Overall, This is kinda the real reason why I wanted to play this DLC in the first place.
Fallout 4’s Automatron DLC isn’t bad by any standard. However, when you look at as a Bethesda DLC, it’s quite disappointing. It lacks the long and enjoyable story with a magnitude of new and interesting characters. Its new locations are a joke when compared to previous DLC’s like Skyrim’s Dawnguard. The only thing holding this whole piece is the robot building, which isn’t a good thing. Let’s hope that when they again deliver a DLC with a story, new locations, and mechanics, that it really does deliver on a high note.
