Uhg, if this game wasn't so awesome I'd be pissed right now. About 3 and a half hours in, I ended up going to Primm for the quest, and I had a faction suit on (being generic here to avoid spoilers) and completely forgot about it. Walked into a building of friendlies who didn't like the faction of the suit I was wearing and blammo, instant death (at level 3 with no damage resist, not hard). Thing about it is, I had only my autosave going. I usually only save when I'm ready to call it a night. Since this was the early part of the game, I had no other saves than the autosave so of course, when I walked in the door of the place it autosaved! >.<
I've tried running out the door, taking off the faction suit, and walking back in but that doesn't work. Oh well. It was hella fun anyways, so I don't mind starting over. At least it wasn't 10 or more hours! Honestly, by then I would have been manually saving.
Let this be a lesson to others, save often and pay attention to what you are wearing. Faction suits add a whole new aspect in the challenge department.

" If you're playing it on the PC just try typing in tgm in the console. "I'm on the Xbox 360.

" It's amazing that this game has brought back the need for constant saving. We got so spoiled with autosaves that you have to wonder how many people are going to do exactly what you've done. "Yep, gonna have to go back to the way it was in Oblvion (because it was so easy to hack a friendly with a sword) and alternate between 2 or 3 saves.
Not that I didn't still end up having to redo stuff and roll back to even older saves.
100 save slots in FO:NV, right?
Exact same thing happened to me, but I got it to work eventually. I had to go back in there to complete a quest and they all opened fire. Took me a couple tries (quickly exiting the building, moving around, going back in) before I figured out it was because of the suit I had on. I wasn't willing to go back to a 30-minute old save though (and 3 hours? Sheeeeit...), so I was pretty determined to make this work somehow.
I tried everything (probably took almost the half hour it would have taken just to start over), but nothing would work. As soon as they saw me in that suit, it didn't matter if I left, put on normal clothes, and come back. They still obliterated me every time. Finally, I tried using a stealth boy before entering just to see if I could get up to the NPC I needed to talk to in order to end the quest. This time, the first person I came across just said "hey there." And everything was fine. Not sure if that would work again though. Some shit in this game just makes no sense.
Interesting, I can't try it myself because A. I deleted the save and started over already. B. I don't think I had a stealth boy.
But I'm not actually bothered by the whole issue anyways. I also learned that it's better to build up your lockpicking before science. Ran into one machine to hack, while I already found a bunch of stuff I could lockpick. Better to re-roll now than later I guess. ;)
Stuff like this was one of the reasons why I ended up with over 500 saves in Fallout 3 that I had to go back through and delete manually when I was finally finished everything. Helped a bit for some of the Bobbleheads that I would have otherwise missed completely and lost 20 hours+ progress for, I guess.
Seems to be a common thing for wRPGs though... had the same sort of issue in Mass Effect where I got stuck in an elevator and had to revert to a save from 3 hours ago.
