Anyone going for S-rank?
I'm working on it now. Have about 70%
Caravan is easy. Just make as much as your deck 7s, 9s, and 10s as you can. At the start discard as much as you can until you have 3 of each in hand. then play the card in the order of 7, 9, 10 or 10, 9, 7. Those add up to 26, which is the highest value the caravan can be without going bust. Generally if you get 2 of the caravans to 16 you'll win.
Most of the achievements don't really look all that difficult, but they will probably take a loooooong time to get.
No way. Don't you have to beat the game on Hardcore to get it? I do not want to do that. I like my RPGs to let me be overpowered and destroy my way through enemies, not to have to worry about water, and ammo weight.
" I'll go for S rank eventually, but not when the game fucks out with crash all the time. I'll need more updates to even care for it right now. "QFT.
My game glitched out on me during a quest, cause a certain set of a faction to turn violent, attack me, which led to destroying everyone else in the room, and I now cannot ever enter a certain level to gain the last fucking snowglobe, which I can't even get rid of anyway, as that person died too.
Dunno if I'll try for it. Between hardcore mode, a separation for guns / energy weapons / unarmed / meele / explosive, stims / food, and multiple endings, it seems designed for 3+ playthroughs to get through it all, or at least some serious save and skill planning.
the weapon part isn't bad.. just save on the stip.. switch to weapon X and kill the strip :)
for the 4 endings.. save a good spot before you actions stop you from doing one.. finish and ending.. and load back..
hardcore isn't hard...
healing from food.. i still have no idea how i'm going to do that.. it is going to take FOREVER!
i'm working on my melee now ;)
golf club action at the strip :)

i have raul in my party (waiting outside), otherwise the melee weapons break fast.
Hardcore isn't that bad. It sounds way more intimidating than it is. Especially if you go with maxing out speech, sneak and energy weapons or guns. Companions dying was a pain in the ass but leaving them to wait at a safe house was the only decision for their survival sometimes.
" Hardcore isn't that bad. It sounds way more intimidating than it is. "Definitely my experience. I maxed out speech and guns early, and got repair to 90 for Jury Rigging + survival around 70. I find myself eating way more food than using Stimpaks this play around.
Hardcore was super easy. I always had more food, ammo, and water than I needed. Also, I only needed to sleep maybe twice in a forty five hour play through. Not sure what's up with that. I also had around 80 stims towards the end. Sure stims take time to heal, but you just need to find some cover like in any third or first person shooter.
On topic, I'm definitely going for an S rank, but it will probably take me months.
if you have a lot of stims... here is ez mode to get the achivement
save the game... turn off hardcore mode... go in to the lake (you see where this is going).. drown :) and spam stims (hot key them).. load back before you turned off hardcore mode.
healing with food.. still not sure how i'm getting that one. my suggestion is if anyone plans to get s-rank - never use a stim. always heal with food and hopefully that does it for ya. personally i didn't take very much damage in the game. I think i'm going to have to farm those cow looking things near jamestown and drown/eat. *sigh* that is going to take a long time.
" Yeah, somebody fill us in on the Caravan concept page :) "umm....I dunno I gave it a shot. Please improve....
the trick I wrote is still good for winning 90% of the games, go check my xbox achievements for proof.
FU Caravan... game bugged and i had to do it twice!
DONE!
till the dlc comes out >.< (this is my first s-rank)
hrmm.. is there a way to cheat achievements on steam.. i was looking @ other ppl on GB that has done all the achievements.. and..

that makes me sad... all that guy's games time stamp for achievements flood in at one time. Is it really that ez to hack? *blah* kinda cheapens that hours i put in that caravan... oh internet :P
Got my S-Rank! Desert Survivalist popped up easier than I thought. I spent most of my latest playthrough hoarding gecko/brahmin/bighorner meat so I could make it into steaks. (Also I got a bunch of radscorpion glands for Rose Nash to make casseroles). I decided to do what I did for the stimpack achievement and just let some fiends attack me while I continued to heal. Since food heals over time even in normal mode and it seemed to be keeping pace with the damage I was taking (I planned to pop a stimpack every now and then just in case) I went into my pip boy and decided to "queue" up all my food and wait, but when I was almost done eating all the food, the achievement popped right away. I didn't even have to wait for my character to take the damage/have it healed. I don't know if that was supposed to happen or if a glitch happened in my favor. I wonder if that would happen with the stimpack achievement if you did it in hardcore mode?
I don't have the time for it right now, but over the long haul I might. I almost S-Ranked Fallout 3 except for the Neutral Karma levels and the bobble heads.
" if you have a lot of stims... here is ez mode to get the achivementThis is one of the reasons I do not generally pursue any kind of achievements. Verily, seeking achievements either involves spending far more time obsessively pursuing them, or one is forced to resort to the kind of silliness mentioned above.
I simply don't understand the appeal of the modern achievement system.
" @the_hiro_abides said:Agreed. Hardcore mode isn't hard so much as it is a bit of a nuisance. Kinda like the bug in the game that makes your arms go up like you're aiming when you're not." Hardcore isn't that bad. It sounds way more intimidating than it is. "Definitely my experience. I maxed out speech and guns early, and got repair to 90 for Jury Rigging + survival around 70. I find myself eating way more food than using Stimpaks this play around. "
I'm almost there. My first playthrough was on hardcore, I just got Desert Survivalist and then proceeded to get kicked out of the three casinos. The only thing that seems like a real drag is winning 30 games of Caravan...but I suppose I'll look up some strategies when the time comes.
I'm in love with this game.
If I'd known that hardcore mode was independent of the game difficulty, I would be going for a S-Rank. But now it's too late and I doubt this is the type of game I'll be playing again anytime soon.
I'm trying to go for an S-rank, but the damage and healing achievements, and the Legion achievements, are just not appealing. I also didn't have high enough luck to get kicked out of all the casinos easily, so that is bothersome.
On PC:
Step 1: Open console
Step 2: Type cheat code
Step 3: ???????
Step 4: Die a little inside.
That's what i did for Fallout 3 before i sold it.... Regretted it. Achievements didn't feel the same after that for a long time.
" this game calls for me to s-rank and when the dlc comes out as well "This.
New Vegas is definitely a lot less forthcoming on its
achievements. And I don't want to spoil myself by reading
them. But I did peek to find out that Hardcore requires
one. Man that is gonna take forever. I spent a year
playing Fallout 3 & finishing every DLC that came out.
But man...an S-Rank for New Vegas is f'in serious!!
The only ones I see being a real pain are the ones for doing a certain amount of damage with different weapons and healing certain ways. The various story quest achievements can be done rather quickly. The main story in both Fallout 3 and New Vegas isn't terribly long if you just plow straight ahead. As for an S-Rank I seriously doubt I'm ever going to have the time to do every single ending. Just like I wasn't able to play Fallout 3 again after over a hundred hours running around D.C.
