I always loved starting a new game on Fallout 3 and using the explosives perk so I could immediately get my house in Megaton. Is there anything equivalent that early (or at all) in New Vegas? I'd like a place to stash all of my stuff.... and decorate <.<  >.>

I'm guessing Novac is one of the smaller factions? I've mostly been roaming around so far just scrounging so I haven't gotten much story in. None, in fact. Finished Goodsprings is all.

No, Novac is just the name of a motel you'll have to visit during the main quest, and you "rent" one of the rooms for 100 caps.

Any way to permanently own a room? Is this all you know of so far? I think it's lame that Obsidian didn't allow for a house or anything like that.

@Turambar: You get it for free if you're accepted. And it's a town, the motel itself is called dinky dino's something-or-other. I dunno. Something to do with the dinosaurs.

It's worth noting that "rent" in this case means own. You never have to pay.

Doc's house in Goodsprings seems like a decent place. You can grab things around the house and have it not be highlighted "bad deed" red. Plus he never seems to go through the different storage areas he has in his house.

Yeah in Novac if you pursue one of the quests you can get a house and a party member if executed correctly. I also believe you can have a place to stay in the Lucky 38 Hotel in New Vegas but depending on how you get along with Mr.House could influence your stay there.

You do eventually get a free permanent dwelling.  It's pretty massive too, presumably to fill up with all the companions you don't currently have rolling around with you.  It just takes longer to get than in Fallout 3.  It's also worth noting that once you're "Liked" in Novac, the lady will give you a room for free.

It feels like you get several houses in this game, but one ends up being a meeting point for your companions -- although I got that one about 12-hours in.

@Styl3s:  All I know is I was accepted when I talked to the landlord lady and she said it was free on account of my help, I didn't have to pay the 100 caps.

It's really not a big deal though, you've paid it and you won't have to pay again.

What I want to know is is it possible to still get a room after doing Boone's side quest?  Those that did it should probably know that what I'm talking about.

Without spoiling anything, you will be approached by someone as soon as you enter the strip.  Go where they tell you and soon enough, you'll get your free dwelling.
