All the textures are rendered at an uncompressed 4k for no reason making it run terribly. Not the worst part of the mod obviously but still.

@lyndbako: I uh, can't believe you're making this argument.
No, no one is saying Loli is a direct 1:1 path to molesting children. What it does do, however, is it normalizes sexualizing younger women. Which leads to a culture where these pictures of 16 year olds in lingerie is just -- okay. For examples of this, see how many people jump on the internet to say, "bUt ThAt'S jUsT jApAn/aNimE/HeNtAi." Which, by the way, it's not okay!
Because they're children, for fuck's sake. How is this even a discussion?
Also lol
CP is obviously abhorrent, but
@lyndbako: Sure. Ignore the part where I try to explain normalization to you, and focus on the joke.
Don't be surprised if you get flak while saying, "I will defend people's rights to have fucked up and rotten interests." It's a position you can have, but again, don't be surprised if there's push back. Especially when naked cartoons of children are involved.
lolicon is far from mainstream, and I'm not arguing that it should be, either. It can't normalize anything. It exists in its own little niche with other paraphilia and shocking content. As long as there is no potential to create victims, I don't think it should be actively stamped out.
@lyndbako: That’s not the justification it’s like... the blinking red light that drew attention to the rest of the disaster.
It certainly seems to be the justification from the dev's messaging, and is the lead to every article about the removal
@lyndbako: "Lolicon" is not meant to be "shocking" content and is generally presented in a sort of 'innocent' way that's not explicitly sexual but rather focused on sexualizing cuteness. It's not like something like vore or tentacle rape or whatever.
And the sexualization of children is dangerous, some people will inevitably move on to much worse stuff, and it's bad and absolutely should be stamped out.
We don't have an epidemic of tentacle rape or vore, but child sex abuse is incredibly common and sexualizing children in media encourages it.
After recent political events in the United States and elsewhere the idea that media consumption is just passive and has no ill effects is more ludicrous than it has ever been.
Some people may be able to view "lolicon" content "responsibly" and only look at animated images and never hurt a child. Maybe the vast majority of viewers will treat it that way. But some percentage won't, and people will get hurt as a result.
@lyndbako: My dude, what exactly are you arguing for then? You're attempting to occupy this awkward space of, "I don't like Lolicon but I think Lolicon has a right to exist," which... why? Why go to the mat so hard for what is, essentially, CP-Lite?
It also doesn't have to be mainstream to be normalized. The fact that you can even say "it exists in its own little niche" shows that, there is a niche, and hey, guess what, in those niches, it feels pretty normal. And yeah, any amount of normalization does actually contribute to harm in the real world. It's not as simple as "the man watched the anime tween in thigh highs and nothing else one day, and the next he assaulted a minor," (sorry, I'm going to keep pointing out in vivid detail what you're defending here, because I'm not going to settle for a euphemism like Lolicon,) but it does contribute to a world where sexualizing younger women feels more normal.
And that's it, really. If you make the scope of this discussion as narrow as humanly possible, then yes, the specific form of Hentai known as Lolicon is not "mainstream." But if we include what this is really about in a broader sense -- sexualizing women too early in their life? That is hellllla mainstream. Look at how much mainstream porn is "Teen ________ gets _______ed" or shit like that, literally as young as they can legally be on camera. See how much unverified CP had to get nuked from PornHub recently. The issue is prevalent, but if you want to stick your head in the sand and say, "but they're just a niche cartoon," be my guest.
If it’s not illegal, it’s not a story in my opinion.
The original Fallout 2 had a “child killer” perk that featured Vault boy kicking a pregnant woman in her belly. They didn’t ship it with the graphic, but the perk remained. As did killing kids.
The constant investigation of all people affiliated with a game and the determining that they must be “righteous” or the games industry will blacklist them is troubling in the extreme.
If you don’t like what a game is doing, just do t play it. If so,etching criminal happens, like child porn, call the authorities. Otherwise... what’s the story here?
@fluidk: What an absolutely horrible take.
The idea that criminality should be the limits of morality is absurd. Many things that are criminal are not actually immoral, and many things that are immoral are not criminal. There are many things that are immoral that in fact should not be criminal (I don't actually think lolichan should be illegal, even though it's horrible and the people who engage with it should be shunned).
The idea that things like racism and sexism and sexualization of children are fine if they are within the bounds of the law is perverse. These things are actually quite horrible and people who are into them should be judged and not financially supported or given positive attention.
Furthermore nobody actually blackballed anyone here. The mod makers themselves took the mod down temporarily because they got backlash. If you don't like criticism of games then why even be on Giant Bomb, which is a site all about people's reactions to and critiques of games. Giant Bomb only exists because Jeff Gerstmann didn't really like Kane & Lynch!
The people who have been blackballed from the games industry have been blackballed because they've done heinous shit, not because of the content they created.
The Fallout 2 comparison is totally irrelevant. That game wasn't advocating for kicking pregnant women, it was just doing stuff for shock value. Games continue to do stuff for shock value and literally nobody cares. Last of Us Part II is full of shocking actions, some committed by the player characters, and it won game of the year at the Game Awards so the idea that current game culture is squeamish about shocking stuff is out of step with reality. This isn't being judged because it's shocking it's being judged because it's weird fetish stuff and sexualization of non-consensual relationships and sexualization of children done for prurient reasons by a mod whose team also included a guy who drew other sexual pictures of children.
Fallout 2's writer was eventually blackballed from the industry, (though he may be back), but it wasn't for anything he wrote, it was for sexually harassing and hurting real people. Something you may not care about it if it doesn't affect you personally (sexual harassment is often not a crime) but any decent person does.
I had no idea of the loli term or subject matter until reading this thread. Disturbing people out there.
According to some users in the linked Reddit thread, some of the patching is because a bunch of the memes and gags were meant to be Wild-Wastelands-only, but weren't flagged correctly. I hear the writing isn't very good and doesn't fit into Fallout very well, but having the memes properly confined to the "give me memes" mode will probably help a bit.
@bigsocrates: Well put.
One of my "favorite" misconceptions by internet free speech warriors (who almost always argue for the most vile shit in defending the first amendment -- strange, that,) is that devs are being censored or kicked out of the industry by the press for just having wrongthink (something something 1984 something something Orwell's nightmare come true something).
That's never the case. This mod is being put on blast by the community, not just press. Most players find a lot of the content in this mod reprehensible. And the 1% that doesn't cries foul, accusing everyone with some semblance of decency or taste as being "righteous," "SJW."
@fluidk I'm deeply amused by your spectrum here. Gross content in a game is okay, and one of the creators being into Loli is okay, but players taking issue with that is TrOuBLInG iN tHe ExTrEmE? Okay bud.
Fallout 2 was not a masterpiece because of the "Child Killer" perk. There were a few other things going for that game, lol.
