I know that if I were to buy this game, or Fallout 3 on PC, I would mod the hell out of it. It's just that kind of game for me.

Please don't "cheat"
It's not my usual practice to take such a polemic stance in my replies on this forum, but I must rebuke the author for his appalling statement about Fallout 3's story. Fallout 3 had an excellent and immersive storyline, and I simply cannot fathom how anybody with any taste could go so far as to state the opposite. It certainly wasn't a perfect game, but the main storyline was compelling and well-contrived right through to the end.
Perhaps the issue is a matter of personal attention span or taste, but I simply cannot imagine how anybody could make such a flippant indictment of one of the best features in an overall premium title. Honestly, what more could you want from an RPG's storyline? Must it engender some kind of Homeric awe or mind shattering revelation just to get a simple passing grade?
Not much more to say really. I think games are often more than the sum of their parts and that you can't judge a game by judging individual elements of it in isolation. For instance, appreciation of story can easily be altered if a game succeeds (or fails) at immersing you in the world, yet clipping through walls is not conducive to immersion. Other games rely on a scarcity of ammo to build tension and they rely on tension to enhance the atmosphere - giving yourself unlimited ammo would immediately undermine all of that, not just the difficulty of combat. There's more to game design than just slapping a bunch of different elements together, and when the player takes it upon themselves to alter one of them they are effectively altering the game as a whole.
People can absolutely play SP games however they like, but to me it's like watching somebody necking vintage wine so they can get drunk quicker. I'll take their opinion as seriously as they took the wine/game/whatever.
edit: Sorry, iPad reply fail half way through that.
Given the freedom offered in how we experience the game (skipping missions, killing NPCs, etc.) I don't think giving yourself a few extra rounds of ammo is really going to make a huge difference in how we experience the game. Even within the rules of the game, few of us are going to experience it the same way. Some might end up with very little ammo or money. Others not. The cheats most people are using are inconsequential given the wide array of options available within the game itself.
Because for me Fallout is all about the immersive experience. It is not a game where I want to be all powerful and go in blazing everyone. I loved the feeling of going to an area and realising that I was not ready and having to retreat and come back later (this just happened at Black Mountain). For me the Fallout experience means being part of a world - not the ruler of it or the hardest fucker around.
In a weird way I compare this game to Braid. During that game I went to the internet to find out the solution to one of the puzzles and after doing this felt really disappointed - I got loads more satisfaction from working out the puzzles myself no matter how long that took - and this compares to the locked rooms and tough opponents in Fallout. I know if I cheated and opened the door my curiosity would be satisfyed but I would not be getting the full experience the game has to offer.
I'm sorry for the abuse you got for just for offering your opinion - People who got angry because they thought you were telling them what to do must have only read the header to your post and not your actual words.
