Having a really bad lag issue with New Vegas to the point where it's not tolerable.
Even on medium settings, it will lag but the wierd thing is that I can play Fallout 3 on Ultra settings with a smooth 60fps. Anything I can do to fix this?

I've updated my video card and all that shite.

    Found a fix:

From what I've heard, there should be a patch out later today for memory leaks.

Is that what would be causing lag?

A memory leak fix only fixes lag after a short or long periode of gameplay time. (Because of the memory is unable to process all the data to the rest of the system) Is that your problem?

Sometimes it will lag right away, other times it takes a few minutes or so.

Then i'm not sure. I see that you mentioned drivers for your videocard, but have you also tried to update Direct X? Other than that i recommend for you to wait later to see if the memory leak fix will fix something.

Good to know I'm not alone. Hopefully this update will solve the problem. I suppose it just takes time.

I wouldn't say mine is bad but there's the occassional jitteryness, especially in combat. Fallout 3 had no problems.

There is some weird bug where the game stutters whenever NPCs are on screen, seems pretty common too.

    I think that's the problem I'm getting.

On the other hand, I can't change my settings- I had it sent to windowed and now I can't revert it.

Been to various forums, and it seems like this is a very common problem. Makes you wonder how a development team reacts when they find out they've sold a broken product to a good chunk of their customers.

Well, if it's anything like Fallout 3, then they will ignore the customers' complaints and allow the game to continue to lag, freeze, and generally frustrate the heck out of their paying customers (in the case of Fallout 3, this was especially true on the PS3)

    @dahapr44:
I bought Fallout 3 on Steam in early December 2008 (about a month after it came out), and I've never had any lag problems. It definitely crashes more than any PC game I've ever owned, but not frequently enough to be too annoying. Weird that it's been the exact opposite with New Vegas so far (no crashes, but terrible frame rates).

This problem is everywhere. It is unplayable for me. It think it may be specific to nvidia cards.

Yep, top of the line computer, same problem. I refuse to play the game in this state. This shit is inexcusable. Ironically, I was one of the people who didn't "get" everyone's complaints about Fallout 3. That I ran perfectly.

New Vegas does not play well with Fermi... You are warned!

Also, companion pathfinding causes megalo memory leaks (this according to Beth support!)... If you are crashing repeatedly in a particular section and you're travelling with companions, ditch them and try it again. courtesy of Tom Chick at Fidgit

stop the presses!! obsidian made a game on a bethesda engine and there are bugs?!?! why anyone would pay $60 for a game that everyone knew was going to be this buggy baffles me to no end. There should be a moratorium on these forums for people whining about bugs in an Obsidian/Bethesda Fallout game.

The only problem I had was when people fell through map and I had to open command console and enter "tcl" to remove collision so I could fly through and kill

I think that the problems with Fallout 3 were most pronounced on the PS3 (particularly the GOTY edition), the only version that I have and thus the only version that I can talk about. I have heard that it was a much better experience on other systems.

Guys, great news! I found a fix that worked great for me
     http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34778
I suppose it's temporary until they actually fix it themselves, but it works GREAT
