First off, i remember Fallout 3 letting you choose a perk at every level up, but for some reason I can only pick a perk every two levels so far in New Vegas. Im level ten right now, and I'm just wondering, is this normal?  Also, do you ever get a house to live in? Because Im a pack rat and carrying all this stuff with me and not being able to pick more up is SUPER frustrating.

Yes, you're supposed to get a perk every two levels. And can get a house in Novac and The Strip, dunno if there's any more.

I believe there are a few different spots you can get as you complete missions. I have 3 different spots and maybe a 4th, but I can't find the place the guy told me to go and it was not marked on my map.

You can get a motel room in Novac. And if you want you can use any of the abandoned houses in nipton I guess.

Ok, knowing that the game isn't glitching so that i only get a perk every two levels is a load off my shoulders, and knowing that you can get a house in Novac is a load of my character's shoulders. Thanks TheSeductiveMoose, RavenX302, and FancySoapsMan!!

Until you can get a house, there is a crate between the general store and the saloon in the first town that I used to store stuff. There is a workbench and reloading bench right next to it. Be careful though, you can run into them and knock them around as they aren't attached to the world or anything... just loose container objects.

When I first started I used the Doc's house as a base of operations. Plenty of storage spots nothing disappears and clean water for healing.

@sixpin: I never use open world containers for anything I want to keep. Just because the AI is built so that if a character needs something, they will go get it from the environment. Like if you shoot the gun out of a bad guys hands, they will pick up the nearest weapon. I have seen NPCs pick up my stuff in Oblivion, Fallout 3 and I don't want to see it happen in NV.
I would suggest using Victor's shack as a base of operations since he cannot physically use any of your belongings and his house has plenty of spots to put things.

@Pokechapp: Yeah, I've seen them do that in Oblivion and Fallout 3. However, there is only one fight in that first town and it hardly counts as a real fight. Nothing happens there to trigger such AI behavior, so I felt pretty safe about that hiding spot. you get a house in Novac pretty quick, so it doesn't matter for long anyway.

@sixpin: True that. I have always been pretty on the edge ever since I read the article about the guards in Oblivion killing prisoners for their food because they were hungry.

I recently had to move all my Novac stuff to my Presidential Suite. Took me about 5 trips while using ED-E as a mule.

new vegas nexus has got a mod that gives you a house in goodsprings (next to victors shack)
Its pretty neat unless you feel like thats cheating... and if you're on the PC

Also theres a mod for getting a perk every lvl, but yeah thats kinda cheating (doesnt disable steam achievements though)

@Pokechapp: Yeah, there are plenty of things to be paranoid about in New Vegas though. I've heard of glitches with ED-E losing his inventory while zoning in or out of buildings. I've also had the entire town of Primm turn hostel on him for no obvious reason. There are a ton of sketchy bugs in this game, but I still love playing it (like Jeff said in his review).

I've not got into The Strip yet to get the Presidental Suite. I've not had much time to play this week due to work, but I'll marathon some this weekend for sure.

@sixpin: There are so many bugs. I actually found an infinite cap glitch in the casino in Primm. You can keep trading your chips in for caps, but he never actually takes them. So you keep getting caps. But I only did it once or twice to make sure it was happening. I don't need the glitch since my luck is 10. So I can walk into a casino with 500 caps and walk out with 5000.

EDIT: umm I will stop derailing.....

    @Pokechapp:  lol awesome

@kuz101: I actually started over the first time I hit level 3. I had already planned my character out based on Fallout 3's leveling system.

for a house i still use the lucky 38 presidential suit . I dunno later when i decide to finish the game if i am going to lose that place. But you can upgrade it with workbench trunks and fridge so pretty much i consider it as home .
