Glad I got this on PC instead of the 360, the load times are really quick for me at least.

I don't know about the 360, but for the PS3 version, restarting the console helped noticeably.  It also got rid of this annoying bug where every time I pulled up my laser rifle scope, it would display a computer monitor instead of the crosshairs.

Just like Oblivion and Fallout 3, delete your game's cache once in a while. It will fix most problems.

I never noticed the load times being bad at all.. though I like looking at the ads and stuff they show during their load screens.

If you disable auto-saving, it speeds up the loads times.

Just remember to actually save once in a while before you get destroyed by Deathclaws.

Ever played Oblivion? Load times still got up to 30 second+ with the game installed to the hard drive. As for Fallout 3, 25+ second loads when installed was pretty typical.

You're only using about 10% of your brain so install it in there. It'll take about 8% of your brain storage but it is worth it. And of course, make sure to clear your mind from time to time as it'll allow you to think much more clearly more regularly.

The longer you play, the longer it takes to load. Quit and restart every now and then.

@swat200: Dude, you're so right. I got bored as shit waiting for loadscreen after loadscreen when constantly moving through Freeside to various other nearby locations. It takes ages for it to load on my 120gb 360 hard-disc. I am really jealous of PC players. Can't wait till I can afford a gaming PC.

*spits his tobacco, while rocking in his chair* Back in my day, we spent more time loading games then playing them. Yes sir, there was a time when you would set down and ready yourself for a right good load time before each and every level.

@swat200: Install to hard drive, clear cache every 3 hours or so no problems. Seriously, the only time I have seen the second page on the load screen is when I have been playing for longer than 3hours and I haven't cleared the cache.
If you follow this procedure you will have nothing to complain about.......in that respect anyway. :)

(a) My 360 doesn't usually take more than 5 seconds to load, except to get to the start menu when I first put the game in.

(b) HARDLY the first "game that's basically a loading screen in a box."  Go play Everquest for a while.

@swat200: thats really weird then.  i dont know what to tell you. when i installed it on the harddrive, load times were no longer a problem.

there were definitely occasions where it froze while loading, glitched me through the floor, chugged when i went into a new area after loading, or even just straight up freezing for no reason at all.

No they don't, loads were fast as hell on Oblivion and FO3 compared to New Vegas. The game was produced terribly.

I got a 3-8 sec loading on my 360 in-game, though, i will see longer load times after i've played it for a few hours. Seems like a memory leak and a performance issue though.

Fallout NV on Xbox: Costs more, can't be modded and has to wait for Microsoft certification for patches.
Fallout NV on PC: Costs less, can be modded which includes bug fixes.

I never compared FO3 and Oblivion loading times to NV since I only have NV for the PC. However, the loading times I listed were accurate. I was just pointing out that all games that Bethesda has released on the Gamebryo engine have had long load times. I just did a quick test myself with FO3 installed to the hard drive. Loading a save from the menu took about 22 seconds and loading from Megaton to the Capital Wasteland took about 21 seconds. Oblivion load times were definitely longer than FO3 so the 30 second load time when installed seems accurate.

It is a bit strange that load times increase the longer you play. I've only put in one or two marathon sessions on New Vegas, but had the same issue. But since I rarely play for more than an hour at a time, it hasn't been a problem. I haven't tried clearing the cache. I'll have to see what difference that makes. Generally my load times aren't more than thirty seconds or so, which isn't bad. Unlike Oblivion, neither Fallout game has had the occasional load symbol pop up just when navigating the open world.

The weird thing about New Vegas is that some of the areas are very small with short loads going in and long loads coming out. They could have balanced this a bit better than they did, but overall I haven't had long load times and I don't have the game installed on the 360's hard drive.

Edit: I do remember long load times in the distant past. I used to boot up games on my Commodore 64 as a kid and then go make breakfast. Sometimes the games were actually loaded by the time I was finished. And no, I'm not joking. :)
