I don't think Jeff seems all that interested in Fallout and Brad made comment that he had traded a long game review for a hard one (guessing Super Meat Boy) - which leaves Ryan and Vinny as the fallout fans and Vinny doesn't really write reviews so ...
Fallout: New Vegas
Game » consists of 25 releases. Released Oct 19, 2010
The post-apocalyptic Fallout universe expands into Nevada in this new title in the franchise. As a courier once left for dead by a mysterious man in a striped suit, the player must now set out to find their assailant and uncover the secrets of the enigmatic ruler of New Vegas.
Who is on the review? Ryan?
I have a feeling Jeff will rate it pretty high because it fixed a lot of stuff that most likely didn't appeal to him in the previous game. Not saying that he didn't like it the first time, but instead he will like this one even more!
I don't feel good about Jeff reviewing it. I don't think he loved Fallout the way it should be loved. He complained about the DC wasteland being empty in Fallout 3, to me that sounds like he never looked hard enough, cos there was a shit ton of stuff in that world to see, that was Fallout 3's greatest strength. He seemed to grow pretty sick of people on the Bombcast talking about it too, whereas Ryan, Vinny and Brad were still talking about it weekly pretty much until it became a running joke after months.
I'd rather have a Jeff review on any other game -I think he's the best writer on Giant Bomb- with the exception being New Vegas. Anyone else would have been better. At the end of the day I'm buying it regardless, so I'm not too bothered about it.
" @Jayzilla: I love Fallout enough to look past any bugs, however game breaking. No one buys a Fallout game expecting it be to in proper working condition on release. "Yeah, but when you factor in the general instability of the Gamebryo engine, and then combine it with Obsidian's inability to bugtest... I wouldn't be surprised if this game is jankier than Fallout 3 was. And Fallout 3's aggressive jankiness was one reason why I couldn't love it the same way other people on these forums seem to.
However, I'm going to guess 3 stars if it's Jeff reviewing it.
" @samcotts: you do realize obsidian is making this and not bethesda, right? you should be aware that obsidian is notorious for their bugs. if you don't believe me, check out their stable of games. while a lot of them are cool story wise, they do have some pretty terrible bugs including crash/locks. i am not buying this til it is $20 used and they have ironed out some of the problems. also there is no telling if the modding tools for this will be any good. "Dagerfall was pretty much broken when it was released and Bethesda's later games haven't been much better, so I think most fans of Bethesdas RPG's can look past some bugs. It doesn't matter if it's Bethesda or Obsidian, they both make bug filled games.
The game uses the same engine as fallout 3 so the toolset will be just as good as the one for Fallout 3.
" Jeff's latest statusupdate: "Spent 26 of the last 48 hours working on a review. Hope to finish that up tomorrow, but we'll see" Doesn't say Fallout: New Vegas, but considering his gamertag is playing it I'd guess he's the one reviewing it. "This. Spending 26 hours on a review sounds exactly like a Fallout kinda game considering the huge amount of content these games usually have.
I think Jeff did a fine job reviewing Fallout 3. I am a big fan of the Fallout franchise, and I thought his review made a lot of sense. There was definitely a degree of jank in the game that would sometimes kill the atmosphere, but overall, the game was solid. Fallout New Vegas looks like more of the same, so I can't really see it falling below three stars unless it has some serious technical problems. (I am really hoping there aren't any technical problems!)
