The post-apocalyptic Fallout universe expands into Nevada in this new title in the franchise. As a courier once left for dead by a mysterious man in a striped suit, the player must now set out to find their assailant and uncover the secrets of the enigmatic ruler of New Vegas.
Will you playthrough on hardcore.
Im sure you'll all at least try it out, but will you attempt a full playthrough in this mode?
Apparently you have to drink water, manage weight a little more than usual, damage is amped up and other fun stuff. (I wish i could make this a poll but alas, there is no button for it.)
I might......... but I'd like to see it first.
I'll definatly try to have a playthrough on hardcore but if theirs no acheivments for doing it then I wont since I dont feel like going through hell for nothing.
I would think about it if water was readily available, but in Fallout 3, every item has a finite quantity in the world. That means your play time would be finite, as well.
But probably not. I play games for fun, and even though a complete simulation of surviving the apocalypse sounds like fun, I know that it probably isn't what I want.
You could drink an infinite amount of water from toilets." I would think about it if water was readily available, but in Fallout 3, every item has a finite quantity in the world. Yes I'm going to play on hardcore. I like that bullets have weight so you have to think before you shoot. Infinite ammo is only fun as a cheat in games like GTA.
Yeah. I like how it adds to the survival aspect. I kinda thought that was something they were going to put in Fallout 3.
" @AndrewB said:I'm talking about purified water, because I'd imagine that especially on hardcore, irradiated water would kill you fast. But we'll have to see. They'll obviously have a way to counterbalance things, because they wouldn't include the mode if it wasn't possible to play through on it.You could drink an infinite amount of water from toilets. I definitely will play through the whole game on hardcore. I'm looking forward to it. Really, one thing I would have liked to have seen in Fallout 3 was a bigger focus on survival. I wanted to be immersed further in the world. No fast travel, needing to find places to sleep, finding places to store your items, not having your health fully restored by taking a nap in a bed, etc. There's all kinds of things. Fallout 3 wouldn't let me sleep if enemies were nearby. I think it'd be better if it didn't tell me this, so I wouldn't know if enemies were nearby (really, just try to wait whenever you're unsure whether or not an enemy may be lurking nearby, and if there is one, you won't be allowed to wait). Let me take that risk on my own, forcing me to more thoroughly check the area before taking a nap, or otherwise take the chance of being attacked and awaken by an enemy. While I do enjoy having enemies appear on the compass and labelled as good or bad, let's face it, it's pretty bogus. Plus, don't have all enemies attack on sight. Make it deeper in that way. I think it'd be cool encountering a group of raiders who kindly take you in, only to try to backstab you when it's most convenient. Oh, and binoculars would be cool if the compass was taken away. Those are the kind of changes I'd like to see in the future. It won't be happening with Fallout: New Vegas, but hardcore mode is definitely a start. Still, I probably won't play it on hardcore until at least my 2nd playthrough.
I want do it because I hated the weight restriction in Fallout 3. I'm a fan of the JRPG theory that backpacks are actually gateways to an alternate universe where you can store an infinite amount of content of all shapes and sizes.

- There is an optional hardcore mode, the character needs to drink water, ammo has weight, healing isn't instant etc. Normal mode is more similar to Fallout 3 gameplay.
- Vegas didn't get many nukes. More intact buildings, as well as desert vegetation. Vegas itself is mostly intact.
- The storyline is focused on the New California Republic vs. Caesar's Legion vs. New Vegas residents.
- You are not a vault dweller but are given a Pip-Boy by someone who is one. You are a courier, left for dead and saved by a friendly robot.
- There is a screenshot of a vault suit as well.
- There is an assault rifle looking like the M4, as well as a new machine gun that shoots grenades.
- There are special moves for melee weapons in VATS – specifically a move for a golf club called “Fore!” which seems to be a groin shot.
- The Hoover Dam is in the game and is supplying electricity to the city.
- There is a quest to rescue a ghoul from some super mutants. The ghoul can then become your companion
- The Geckos are back.
- Skills have a bigger effect on conversation choices. E.g. someone with a high Explosives skill may be able to have a conversation about explosives where appropriate.
- Bartering is not just lower prices but negotiating for better rewards.
- All dialogue options are shown to all players, regardless of whether you have the stats to succeed or not, though there's no punishment for failure.
- There is a Reputation system for each settlement like in Fallout 2 in addition to Karma.
- Followers can be managed through a context-sensitive menu, with orders like “follow”, “stay” or “attack”.
- There are both dumb and intelligent super mutants, including the elite Nightkin.
- Some super mutants look similar to the ones in Fallout 3, while others are new. There is e.g. a female super mutant with a blonde 1950s style wig and heart-shaped glasses who apparently is one of their leaders.
- Screenshots include a guy with a beard and straw hat, a ghoul and NCR Ranger.
- The only picture of New Vegas itself is concept art and not a screenshot.
- Some location screenshots include a huge model dinosaur advertising a hotel, some satellite dishes, an array of solar panels.
- A character generation shot showing a “vigor machine” instead of the skill book.
- NCR base is the McCarran Airport, Caesar's Legion is based in the Vegas Strip, while super mutants are based in a place called Black Mountain. There is also a town called Fremont and another called Primm. A topless reuve is mentioned as being in the latter. Area 51 also appears.
- NCR Ranger armor is similar to a brown combat armor with sleeves, there are concept arts of a Ranger.
Yeah, for sure. Sounds a lot more "post apocalyptic" and it would bring a whole new reason to explore the world.
I love a real challenge in a game. So maybe, maybe I'll run through it on hardcore. I usually play through all games on hardest difficulty, since it expands the gameplay time. Also, no fun if it isnt challenging!
" @jams said:" I'll play it on hardcore for as long as it doesn't take every bullet I have just to take down a little piece of paper. "Hardcore has nothing to do with the amount of damage enemies take. Hardcore change gameplay, like for example giving bullets weight. "
In that case...
FUCK YES I'LL PLAY ON HARDCORE! I am one of the ones that wished there was more survival in F3. It seemed like a waste to have all that food and bottled water laying around. I never made real use of the food. I always had enough stimpaks available. What always pissed me off though was the damage the guns did. I could shoot everything in the face 1000 times over in vats with crits and they would just laugh at me. STOP LAUGHING AT ME LITTLE SHARK MEN! ~tears
If there is not a trophy for it then I will not do anything extra. I do enjoy games and not just for the trophies but I am NOT going to walk that extra mile just to be able to brag about it without lieing. And I could care less about challenge so I will probably play on easy.
manage weight a little more than usualI'd entertain trying it if it weren't for this.
If there's one thing that really tires me out, it's inventory management.
" @gike987 said:That's the problem I had with the hardest difficulty of FO3. If I'm not gimped on my weapon damage, I'll be about this mode. I eventually lost interest in the game and came back later to finish it on the normal setting." @jams said:In that case... FUCK YES I'LL PLAY ON HARDCORE! That seems intriguing to me, one of my favorite moments in FO3 involved me against mutant fire ants without any ammo, I felt like i had survived through shear will power at the end." I doubt it. Having to deal with ammo weight is bound to be frustrating. "
Although I imagine a 70 hour game of just that would be also irritating.
