    It's the holiday season, so what do you get for the community that has everything? If you knew me in real life, you'd know I don't buy into Xmas commercialism, and prefer to create gifts and artwork myself. I also really like eating turkey and sleeping until 2pm during my week off, so this is just a tad belated...

    Over the last few months I've been playing a lot of New Vegas on 360 to clear my cache for Skyrim, and holiday Steam sales have let me and many others pick up PC copies of Fallout on the cheap for fun and modding. If you're not modding your Bethesda games, what the hell do you have a PC for? ;)

    So I give to you duders, WMRD-FNV - Whiskey Media Radio Dave for Fallout: New Vegas. Let Radio Dave take your calls* and soothe your weary Courier spirit, as you while away the hours in the Mojave wasteland. Nothing against the Bombcast, but I'll happily put Radio Dave next to Mr. New Vegas any day!

    UPDATE: v1.0 torrent link here. Working for me, but give it a little time. You can also direct download the full ZIP with audio,just the README,or just the ESP filewhich won't do you much good by itself, but there ya go. Possibly I'll put it on NewVegasNexus.com once I get more feedback that it works ok. This thread BTW is http://tinyurl.com/WMRD-FNV

    All the details are in the archive README, but just so you know what you're getting, v1.0 is 4 radio shows from 2011 totaling almost 6 hours of audio: 29-July, 2-Sept, 7-Oct, 18-Nov. The full ZIP is ~340MB. The first few shows were archived by the community, but I haven't scrounged all of them yet. I'd really like to get ahold of more if you can help, particularly the one that Jeff and Ryan hosted while Dave was away. (I'm on it! lol)

    Big thanks to Dave for being cool with the idea of this mod as a novelty. Because live radio shows are a subscriber feature, I certainly won't rush to update it with fresh podcasts, but I've set it up so you can also drop in your own, if you're visiting the Mojave right then. (...put a mod in yo mod, etc. etc.) Feel free to PM me with questions or bugs, and I will post any answers here as well. This mod isn't complex and should work straight up, if your version of FNV is properly patched. But of course I'm interested in hearing about any problems, if you're confident you installed it correctly.

    Future plans:

    • Feedback will determine if I spend any more time on this. Making it work in Fallout 3 should be trivial, but New Vegas is probably old enough at this point. (I don't let silly things like release dates determine when I buy and play games!!) Besides, the Bombcast seems more contextually appropriate for D.C. ;)
    • For v1.1 I have put in hooks to allow intros, Station IDs, advertisements, etc. If you would like to see more done with it, I suggest you make a gentlemanly appeal to myself or Dave. Who knows, we might get some callout lines to work with in the next radio show? ;D

    Thanks for reading this far, and happy new year duders!

    >B

    *Please note that Radio Dave cannot actually take calls placed from a Pip-Boy 3000. RobCo software makes Skype crash. :(

    If only you added one of those audio filter effects to make it sound like it's coming through one of those old radios =).

    Doesn't New Vegas take place like 200 years in the future? Is it just implied that Dave is invincible and never dies? Or did someone just stumble on these ancient recordings of the Whiskey Media Radio Show and decide to broadcast them?

    @chrismafuchris: Yes. ;)

    @JCTango: I fiddled with radio effects briefly but haven't found one that really improved the listening experience. Speech effects on WAVs and OGGs seem to be a different set than what's allowed for radio MP3s. I may be wrong but it appears the analogue warmth of Mr. New Vegas is baked into the recording.

    OK by Dave... link incoming!

    Nice. :D Now you just need to convince Dave to do a Fallout themed episode, completely in character.

    Post of the year.

    Question - Will it come out of radios in the environment too? I have no idea if the two are separate.

    @Bwast: Nah, but thanks. ;)

    Yes they are separate. In the archive README I mention improving the audio files for a future version. The files need to be WAV or OGG format in order to come out through environment radios, but the GECK tool does not allow OGGs to be selected for radio music. So I have a bit more deciphering to do, as other radio station mods mention doing exactly that, but don't really explain why and how.

    @Mento: @Dustpan: Thanks!

    Radio Show this week! Excite!!

    EDIT: I don't have torrent stats, but the direct download has been nabbed about 35 times in the last seven days. No bug reports yet! I've let it run for over 8 hours solid, but that's hardly a stress test. Appreciate any feedback on how it performs on faster systems, SSD drives, etc.

    I want Jeff in Skyrim as a redguard peddler hanging about in Riften.

    He is carrying a dragon figurine. When you talk to him, you can ask him what he's going to do with it, and he'll reply, "I dunno, what am I going to do with anything?".

    @AndrewB: Not touching that with a ten foot phal.. er.. pole. Dovajjiin? >_>

    @DillonWerner: You're not wrong, I did a fair bit of tweaking to normalize the audio, otherwise entire episodes would have a different volume. At least you can set the radio volume independently.

    @EightBitShik: THERE'S STILL TIME for you to win a copy in Vito's giveaway. ;)

    @Harkat: SKOOMA Dealer! We can map in Jeff's boxing game face-scan. :D And as per the mod instructions you can drop in any MP3 you like. I still think the Bombcast is better suited to D.C., but the option is open!

    Thanks everyone for the excellent feedback! The thread got a lot of attention over the weekend, and bandwidth departed the roof sometime last Thursday. Meanwhile I finally finished Old World Blues last night. Now I can actually afford some GRA gear. :) Protip: rush to Repair 90 and GET. DAT. PERK.

    At this point I'm fine with working toward a 1.1 update to improve the mod's performance. That's a fair bit of work for not a lot of benefit though... it would only take a small patch download to add in the most recent show as things are. So I'm going to open it up a little. I have a list of about five or six things I could add to the station feed itself, including commercials, station breaks, all keeping in a Whiskey Radio theme so it will be very familiar audio to most of us. But hey this is a project for the community, if there's something fitting you'd like to contribute, talk it up.

    @Brackynews:

    There should be a 3d Dave but if you TCL into the wall next to him you can find The Icon of Hardcore a la John romero's head and the icon of sin in Doom II.
