I know the NGP is stealing the buzz, but don't forget that PSP games are still slated to ship before Sony busts out its new-fangled handheld. Square Enix, for a good example, has just revealed plans to ship Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection to North America this April 19 and to Europe at some point this Spring, too.

FFIV: The Complete Collection boasts enhanced visuals for Final Fantasy IV, which has seen several re-releases over the years since its Super NES debut. The pack also contains every single episode of The After Years, the downloadable sequels to FFIV that hit WiiWare in North America back in 2009.

The announcement materials for The Complete Collection don’t mention a digital release, but they do have a price: you’ll be able to buy the collection for $29.99, a decent amount of savings in comparison since the full run of The After Years itself will cost you around 40 bones. Not too bad, eh?

Finally I'm going to play FF4. No joke, I haven't played it before so this'll be a nice opportunity.

My favourite Final Fantasy game next to 6. I might pick this up since I haven't played The After Years.

    I already bought the re-re-release on the GBA, I don't think I'm gonna buy a re-re-re-re-release.

While I have nothing against FF IV, it's been remade more times than any other early FF game.  Hopefully the next generation of handhelds will see FF VI remade.

This will most likely be a purchase for me, if only so I can experience The After Years. Loving the updated graphics in the style of the PSP releases of the first two Final Fantasy games in those screenshots, too.

Just...just give me a remake of VI already. That's all I really want.
Forget VII, you'll never ACTUALLY be able to make the fanboys happy. Just give me VI on the 3DS or wherever.

I'm going to buy this game again. I don't even want to think about how many times I've bought it. Enough to know I have a copy of the PAL and Japanese versions in storage.

Anyway, I really liked the look of the FF1 and FF2 remakes on the PSP and I can't wait to see this quest given the same treatment. Getting to play the After Years is fantastic too!

Call me crazy but it kinda looks like that world map screen shot is using the same texture set that they used in FFVI which is awesome!

Now people can truly appreciate just how terrible The After Years was: by seeing it alongside the masterpiece that is Final Fantasy IV.

That's actually really cool. I enjoy my Final Fantasy I remake on PSP and have been meaning to pick up II, but IV is one I have still yet to play. Now I have to decide if I play it on PSP or DS.

The After Years isn't exactly what I would call great.  It has some neat ideas, but unless there are some significant overhauls in the PSP version, I don't see any reason to buy this release.

@Hailinel: That's an understatement, the After Years is about on par with typical fan fiction, it's utter garbage.  My biggest complaint is making Ceodore the main character..  He doesn't really add anything to the story and only detracts from the characters we actually wanted to see more of.

If it was made for fans of the original game, they completely missed the point.. and if it was supposed to appeal to a new audience, it's stupidly inadequate.

That said..  Final Fantasy IV is still my favourite game in the series and if it's actually a complete version (i.e. includes the extra GBA content) then I'll likely buy it anyway.  I also here it has an exclusive costume for Dissidia 2.

It was a natural insinuation based on your statement.  Because unless that "somebody" were Square Enix, any version put up on Android would be an illegal copy.  So there you go.

You turned an after-post quip I added in commenting on how there's all sorts of crazy copyright breaking content on the Android marketplace into an insinuation that I would rather pirate this game than not. So either you're really not understanding what people write, or you're just being a dick. Chances are you didn't even catch that The After Years was originally a cell phone release.

I know it was a cell phone release.  But the way you worded it suggested, hey, fuck it.  I'll play it on my cell phone when someone tosses it up there.  If I misread, then I apologize.

Don't care that much about this but I did play FF3 & 4 when they were remade for the DS. If they were to give a similar treatment to FFVI (Heard that V is whatever) for the 3DS I'd probably play that.

Let's count how many times Final Fantasy IV has been released, shall we?
    Original SNES version
Easytype (Japan only. Just the US version)
    Playstation 1 collection
    Wonder Swan color (Japan only)
    GBA
    DS Remake
    Virtual Console
I probably forgot something, so this takes a space too.
And now this thing. An enhanced port, with all the After Years stuff in for good measure. Apparently The After Years is horrible though.

    • GBA

Why does this game keep getting remade? So many good Final Fantasies could be remade. 5, 6, 7. Especially 6. The GBA version is great, but it's the title most deserving of a full HD console remake. Instead of remaking great games they just put out shit like 11, 12, 13, 14, Agito, Versus, whatever etc.. Stop making new crappy games and remake your classics and see why they're considered classics. Hopefully it would inspire them to make a modern classic instead of the fucking garbage they've been spewing out after 10.

they need to put FF 1-9 on either 1 or 2 Blu-ray collections and they will make a fortune off of it.  They don't have to remake them just put them on a disc or two.  I've got Final Fantasy games on so many systems I have to think of which one they are on when I decide I want to replay a certain entry.  Make it so.
