Grr.... having to win 3 consecutive jackpots to win a fragment in the casino is getting frustrating. I've gotten to "Super Victory Mode" three times now but can never seem to pull out the big win. I hope I can get this eventually because I would really like to get all 160 fragments. I've got the chocobo racing on lockdown with my Gold Chocobo but seeing as there is about zero strategy for the slots....this could take awhile. -_-

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII released by Square Enix in early 2012.
Slot machine...I HATE YOU.
@uniform: One thing that makes it slightly better odds is talk to the lady standing by the machine only ever play when she says the machine is "Hot like a summer day" the machine has "moods" and depending on the mood it pays out more. Even still playing in optimal conditions winning 3 jackpots seems pretty impossible. I went in with a pool of 8000 coins too. =\
And that's exactly what she said. I realize it's going to take a lot more than 30 tries to really start winning, but the behavior of the machine puzzled me. I would try imputing different manual combinations of button presses, and each combo I would use I seemed to get the exact same symbol results. I became frustrated and went to do other things. I'll eventually come back to it, as a platinum trophy is my goal.@uniform: One thing that makes it slightly better odds is talk to the lady standing by the machine only ever play when she says the machine is "Hot like a summer day" the machine has "moods" and depending on the mood it pays out more. @Demoskinos:
Yes, auto-play does lower your win-rate, but not a lot. And I had more success with the auto-play option than manually.
What I did is, I went to the casino when the machines were in good mood ("summerly hot" or something), bought 16k casino coins (which costs you 160k Gil... ._.), taped my L1 button, took a bath, and when I came back I had zero coins but the fragment. An expensive method, but good if you're lazy and have too much Gil anyway ^^
Are you at endgame stuff yet Demo? Gil is really easy to farm in this game so I just ended up buying 60,000 coins with gil and let it run over the course of the day with auto play as I did other stuff, took 2 days and about 16,000 turns but I ended up getting it done finally. The time when I got it I ended up with 3 of the ultimate jackpot things and 20 something of the one below that, all with auto play.
YES! I just checked to see how my slots were doing. I started out with 8K was getting pretty low...checked back I had 14k and the fragment! Apparently there is a trophy for winning a specific amount of gold too or something? Anyways got 14k coins now and the fragment so thats pretty great!
@Zenaxzd: Yep, followed a guide and used Potent's only leveled him to 45 and then infused him with Microchu, Cactuar and Pulsework Gladiator he was smoking everyone up until the Fal'cie class which I have to be a little more careful but on the up and up got my achievement and all the fragments so I don't EVER have to set foot in that damn casino again. =D I do hear you can win the "collectors catalogue" in the choco races but not sure what that even does... heard people raving about it though.
Yeah, basically for weapons this time around they give you a choice of what you want or how you want to get them at end game without having to do an insane amount of grinding.@Zenaxzd: You can get weapon drops in the Steppe? O_o
Through farming rare materials you can craft a weapon with +1 atb (giving your characters 6 in total if you've maxed out the other 5), from the casino you can get the chaos crystal that can be traded in for the weapons with the most raw power but no passive bonuses (it scales with fragments and I believe at 160/160 they each have 220 in both magic and attack). Then in the Steppes 2 of the "boss" mobs that you summon via weather change (1 per weather type) drop weapons. Neochu (rain weather) drops weapons with high magic and bonus to chain gague building and immortal (cloudy weather) drops weapons with +50% atb charge speed on them, which is basically the same as having haste up 100% of the time.
I am not 100% certain, but it doesn't seem you can spawn the other 3 until you kill the Adamantoise in sunny weather. At least in my case after I killed him I got quests to kill other boss mobs in the area. Though I find this weird considering the turtle is the 2nd hardest of the bunch, and the two that drop the weapons are the easiest and at max level can be killed in roughly 50 seconds to a minute without healing or buffing. Maybe I didn't notice the quests until I killed the adamantoise, but I can't really say for sure.
@Zenaxzd: Oh shit so all of this stuff is post game then? Hmm...I guess I should just finish up then. I'm at Academia AF500 but I've been fiddling around getting fragments and such. Suppose I should just finish it off and start post game stuff. Was pretty happy with the fact that I got a Don Tonberry on a single kill tonight. Which is crazy because I heard he has a %2 drop rate.
Gameplay spoilers at the bottom, if you don't want to know what specific bosses do don't bother reading my last paragraph.
@Morrow: Correct, my main point of that was that I killed the turtle before ever killing the 2 that drop weapons despite the turtle being far more of a challenge. I am not 100% positive if you have to do it in that order though, but I didn't get the quests for the other bosses to appear until I had killed him.
@Demoskinos: Yep, may as well finish it up, especially since you can access the paradox endings.
In addition for anyone curious about challenging post game bosses it seems most of them have been moved to rare spawns and are hidden from your general knowledge. The Steppes have more of the memorable challenges from FF13 in them (Long Gui, Neochu, etc) but when finishing off my bestiary tonight (which I just got done a bit ago!) I discovered far many more challenging mobs that were rare spawns in the void. Don Toneberry being one of those. He is pretty cake at max level but before that he offered a nice challenge. Another good one is the Metal Gigantuar in the Steppes. While he barely has any HP every 10 seconds he will use 10k needles which will do 10,000 damage to the entire party if you are not a Sen at the time of the hit. I don't have a problem killing him before he casts it but I am also in the best gear/weapons/max level.
The real good one of the bunch though is a rare spawn in 400 AF Oerba. It's a fight with a unique Cie'th who not only has hard hitting attacks and does insane wound damage but also summons very strong cie'th when she is staggered, summoning even stronger ones the lower her HP goes. In my final stagger on her she summoned two of those fucking sword wielding guys who hit hard and remove buffs along with a vampire who also hits hard. That is for sure the hardest fight in the game imo, even at max level, and will probably be the one where people with messed up stats might be a bit stuck. To be fair I was not using the best monsters for her (as I don't bother with using the best pets, I just use what I like which happens to be a Cactuar, a blue Chocobo, and a healing Flan) but I found her pretty rough.
Someone stealth bumped this, onoes (Blackblacky according to the forum page, another 1 post wonder?). I guess based on this thread I can safely ignore the platinum trophy in XIII-2. Didn't want to grind for 40 hours in XIII so I never got that one either, though I enjoyed that game a lot.
I beat the Fallen in the Last Remnant while extremely underleveled and that was basically just a slot machine, so I can't say I'm entirely exempt from this JRPG gambling sickness (also Alundra 2), but that was sort of amusing to watch.
