i just finished final fantasy 7 for the first time and i now want to play one that doesn't look like a lego game

They are both really good.  I honestly like them both about equally but I would give the slight edge to 10.

I enjoyed Final Fantasy X a lot more. If you can get through a few annoying characters (Tidus mostly), you'll be looking at a great story. 
 
I never really got into FFXII.

10 by far. 12 is entirely skipable to be perfectly honest. Vaan is probably the most pointless main character ever. Balthier (another character) even asks him flat out at one point, "Why are you even here?" and Vaan can't come up with an answer -- because there really is no explanation as to why he is part of the story, let alone the main character.

Oh my God FFX. That game's story was so awesome. And the ending is incredible....but that's just me.

Well i myself enjoyed X a bit, and i really did not like 12.

I really liked FFX. A side from Tidus the characters really grew on me and the battle system was really good and the sphere grid was an interesting change. Not to mention Auron is the best FF character in the entire series.
Just pretend the sequel doesn't exist.

10 had more memorable characters, a better story,  a better soundtrack/score, and better leveling/upgrading system. So my vote goes to 10. And then wait a few months before playing 12 so you don't get a FF burn out.

Just play FFVI. Even if you've already played it, just play it again.
 
Seriously though, I would go with X. I tried to get into XII but it just didn't click with me.

Go with FFX. But don't play X-2. I repeat, DO NOT play that game. FFX has a great ending and X-2 just shits all over it. 
 
XII has the issue of having a very, very different battle system and some people really don't like it. The game also has a weak story. Something I blame on the developers switching the main character from being Bosch to Vaan very late in development. Because they thought that their younger fan base couldn't connect to a guy in his 30's. I'm willing to bet that the same guys that thought this were also the same guys that had the idea to....SPOILERS FOR FFVIII....get rid of the Ultimecia is actually Rinoa angle. That would have made the story so much better! Although, they did leave some clues of it in the game.

The majority of people in the world would say X-it's easier to get into, and is definitely more like VII than XII is. If you want to take a gamble, however-choose Xii. Personally I enjoyed XII more but recommend X to more people.

From what I have seen of 10 it looks terrible but I played 12 and got bored doing some quest.

12 is really good but 10 is one of the best Final Fantasy games made.  Start on 10 then go to 12, they are plenty different enough to play both back to back.

Definitely XII. Get your hands on the "International Zodiac Job System" edition, if you can. There are patches out there so not only the voices are in English in that, too, so really worth a shot.
I love the FFXII universe, the characters (especially Han and Chewb... ahh: Balthier and Fran) and the uniquely mature, political story. I'd rank XII right behind VII and VI. Very underrated.

I know it is not on your list but you should try 9, it is amazing

I liked 12 alot more, mostly because i enjoyed the combat system.
