I'm about to cross the line and buy a kinect pretty soon, and want to know if these games provide a decent workout.

I'd consider myself slightly overweight, I've always sporadically exercised so I've never been to far overweight but the many hours of gaming and below average diet have led me to be a few kilos over my ideal weight. The last 3-4 months I've started a proper routeen that I've stuck too so far, I run atleast 5 km 2 times a week minimum, and 2 to 3 hour plus weight sessions a week. So far I've lost around 6 kilos and in the best shape I've been in about 5 years. I'd consider myself pretty fit, just my diet means I carry around some extra weight. (Diets about the one thing I don't want to change, I like bad foods, I know they're bad but Imma keep eating them).

So I want to know if these games offer some good "hard" exercises/routeens. I've also been doing karate for most of my life so running, push-ups/sit-ups and the like are no strangers to me. GiantBombs coverage has been good in letting me know what the game is like and how I'll be interacting with it, but nothing about the top end and difficulty of the exercise programs. In short are these games going to offer a reasonably fit person, already doing some decent exercise a workout/challenge or are they more like a wii fit type deal.

Also if you have experience with both, or any knowledge really (I can't find much about Active) which one would you recommend Active or Fitness Evolved.

Fitness and having some weight to lose are two separate things. The exercise I do and like doing is usually high intensity in short bursts (fighting/sparring, explosive movements) which isn't as condusive to weight loss but does increase strength and cardio levels if done right. I recover fast from hard energy expenditure due to years training martial arts, however I have never liked or trained much in long distance/endurance type running which is more condusive to losing weight. Being fit doesn't equate being thin.  To Illustrate my point one of the best/if not the best fighter in the world isn't thin/ripped at all (Fedor) and he has cardio for days.

That plus as I said my diet isn't the greatest, and also as I said I don't have any intrest in rectifying that. Which leads me to carrying some extra kilos around. Also I'm not really into it this for losing weight per se but it would be a nice side effect.

Which all leads back to me just wanting to know the top level Fitness Evolved will offer me. If it will be a good "hard" workout and which game offers a better workout.
