So what was the first game? Any1 care to do some research? My first time i guess was Warcraft 1... FoW was so scary in that game... like it was in the middle of the night or something.

Warcraft 1 came after Dune 2. Dune 2 had Fog of War.

Incidentally, I remember playing 1 on 1 Warcraft 1 with my friend over a 14.4 kbps modem. :)

I think this is going to be a really subjective 1st game to use it type thing.  When I was a kid my dad and I would play Galactic Conquest.  It was turn based.  The maps were made up of a grid of 16x16 ASCII chars.  Unknown planets showed up on the "map", but their associated values were unknown.  When a player would take over a planet all players would see those values.  However, when a player would send ships to another planet to take it over the number of ships and where they were going would be hidden from everyone.  Would that be considered fog of war?

My first game was Klonoa: Door to Phantomile for the Playstation. It was my first exposure to gaming, and I've loved it ever since.

I believe Pitfall was the first game I ever played waaay back when.

edit = actually im sure there would be some obscure commodore 64 game.

I would say Warcraft 2 and/or command & conquer 1 would be my first, i played them both at the same time.

Was Herzog Zwei before or after dune?
