I would hope a common interest in gaming is enough. If being a part of this community entails acting like a creepy sycophant and swooning over some nonsensical string of random words, then fuck this community. I got no problem with people acting like that if that's how they wanna behave, but don't act like this hero-worship bullshit should be the bedrock of the community and we should all buy into it. It's kind of nauseating, honestly.

Trust me, you aren't going to do Giant Bomb any favours in the long run by turning it into a cult.

There is nothing cultish about what I'm saying. A community--of which a cult is an extreme form--is founded upon things that are shared. Of course, video games are at the core of why we are here. And yet if that was the sole principle of this community, why are we here? Why not one of the countless other websites that deal with video games? A community must always have something that distinguishes it from other like communities.
I'm not suggesting that GB should be the place solely dedicated to the worship of ridiculous memes, but all the bullshit that happens around here whenever a lot of users think something that happened on GB is funny is just disconcerting.
I hope you understand that I'm not just talking about the memes; I'm talking about this entire atmosphere of negativity whenever anything happens on this site. Have you seen the influx of shit going on in the comment sections of pretty much anything on this site?
Still, if what I'm saying causes nausea, I'd say there are bigger problems that need attention. But hey, it's the internet so it's all serious business right?
