I missed the original UStream & the for some reason the archived footage wasn't working so just now am I listening to the last E3 Bombcast. As a preface I don't believe Giantbomb or the Bombcast is required to appease the community. This isn't PBS. Guests and topics are most likely decided upon based on what the crew thinks will be the best show. If you want audience participation go watch Something-something Idol. I'm extremely grateful to the crew for putting on these podcasts especially after a full day of coverage.
That being said.
Holy god is Leigh irritating. Her presence is equal part loud & obnoxious and confrontational authoritarian. She doesn't so much discuss her points as scream them to the room. Whenever someone does bring forth an opinion (and heaven forbid they contradict her own) she interrupts until they just give up or have to start yelling back. I won't even bother to go into anti-Boston sentiment since I'm going to chalk this up to drunken stupidity. There's a definite change in tone and energy once she leaves that had me wondering I was suddenly listening to a different podcast. It was like this terrible dense cloud was suddenly lifted from the 'room' and actual grownup conversation could begin.
One of the more irksome points of the podcast came when she was decrying the anger towards because she was a woman. Really? Why be accountable for you're actions when you can hide behind (and in turn propagate) a gender stereotype. It can't be because you're a loudmouth. HEAVENS NO! Screaming about a breast popping out doesn't exactly empower women BTW. Also I refuse to accept "I've been drinking / I was drunk" disclaimer. Again own up to your shit or shut up. Even completely destroyed I've been aware enough of what I was saying to decide on whether or not I should say it.
I'm sure there's a good reason for her being on the cast, I just not sure it was for her opinion on anything. My guess is that her abrasive personality makes for interesting listening. Kudos to them because here I am writing my opinion on it.
Late to the Party: My Highly Qualified Opinion on Bombcast E3 D3

Yeah, grownup conversation about the Wii breadmaker and how the ipad is somehow comparable to the 3ds pfffft. j/k
I have a confession to make: I never actually watched the Leigh Alexander part. I got home and started watching the bombcast when she left. All the silly things I said about her was just based on bandwagoned hate and groupthink. Sure, it's immature, but it's the internet and who cares?
Ok I'm not gunna write much because I have kept away from these threads because I got too into them last year but I'll say one thing that made me laugh. Leigh started talking about half-way through about why and how she was annoying and unbearable last year, she explains it in very great detail and apologises, then INSTANTLY goes and starts doing the exact same thing she apologised for just moments ago. I mean come on, what are you doing. In contrast, the last hour or so of the podcast was really, really good. I really enjoyed the last part. To be honest, it would of been better if they just cut the first 2 hours and kept the golden last hour. I would of been very happy with that.
Yeeeaahh I don't think this needs to be brought back up for discussion again. :/
Sure, you have an opinion on the matter, so does everyone else who watched the stream but everything that needed to be said already has been. Let's move on.
They are not required to appease the community, but without the bombcast and quicklook videos there wouldn't be much of a community.
So it would be in their best interest to make content that appeals to the community.
But maybe the slightly "controversial" Leigh Alexander brings more hits to the site?
Could Ryan & crew be that devious?!
I was really hoping that 2009 was just her at a bad time and she'd make up for it this year. But even giving her a huge allowance, I was dissapointed. I've been following her blog and articles since last year, giving her a shot because of all the hate directed at her from it. She isn't afraid to voice unpopular opinions (like telling a convention of virtual world fans they are fooling themselves), but all the thoughtfulness and perception behind her writing is nowhere to be found on her bombcasts.
I gave her the benefit of the doubt when the podcast started. She treated it like it was a debate show and it was terrible. Her constant interrupting ruined any attempt at comedy. No one could even let out a dramatic pause during a story, Leigh would jump in. Ryan should have put her in check, but he was probably too nice and was perhaps a bit sauced.
I am STILL listening to this Bombcast, i can help but laugh, even though audio is just as good as the video, just knowing when to throw up the <> is good enough for me. I think they pretty much admitted that the Day 3 or any of the E3 Podcast after Day 1, was basically a bunch of people in a room, drinking some brews and talking about stuff.
When the pizza arrived, I think any idea of this being a "normal" podcast should of just flown out of the window.
Adam Boyes said it best on his ustream drive home(i'm paraphrasing):
I've talked to Leigh, shes very nice..but i dont know what got into her that podcast..
But Mr. Boyes was fooling himself if he didnt know what got into her.
