Don't buy a racing wheel, unless it's the kinect one.
Should Vinny buy a racing wheel?
On a serious note, i would see Vinny shelving the racing wheel if it's true that he doesn't play a lot of racing games. It's very much a thing you'd want a specific setup for, otherwise it's a cumbersome pain in the ass when setting it up just to play one game and then breaking it down when you're finished. Vinny, you get enough of that from work, i'm sure.
Also, i dunno if it's only with the official 360 racing wheel but the Dirt games are terrible with that wheel.
Do not make a purchase of a similacrum meant to emulate the instrument used for the rotation of vehicular devices Vincent!
Vinny should make his own racing wheel.Vinny should be his own racing wheel.
If anyone wants to make an image of this, you have my full support.
I could see buying one if you're really into racing sims...especially hardcore racing sims like iRacing or something. My brother has the Fanatec or whatever that works on both the 360 and PS3 (as well as the computer)...it does exist and its made pretty well...it actually feels like a real steering wheel (partially because its a leather wrapped steering wheel with crazy force feedback motors and shit).
I wouldn't personally buy a racing wheel...as I just don't have enough room for one and racing games aren't a big enough deal for me to go that route. That having been said, I have a flight stick, throttle, and rudder pedals on my PC...and I feel if you're playing hardcore flight sims (like say...IL2 Sturmovik 1946 or the DCS games or whatever) you really need at least a stick and throttle...and ideally some rudder pedals. I think that wheels are probably the same way.
Then again I'm the worst guy to be giving advice on this...I have a shit load of controllers...two arcade sticks, an expensive mechanical keyboard, a ton of vintage game controllers, and a lot of other stuff...and thats with limitations on what I have room for (if I didn't have any constraints its scary to think what I'd have...hell I'd probably have a huuuuge collection of old arcade games (Sega Rally would be high on the list if I had no limits in terms fo space or budget), a lot of old consoles (I'd love to have a NeoGeo and those Super Famicoms were dead sexy...even if I do already have an SNES).
I would say give it a try Vinny because you never know, you may actually love it.
I just figured out why Jeff is so adamant about Vinny not buying a racing wheel. He's a Trackmania fanboy. Any control method beyond the arrow keys is overkill for him.
But I still don't think Vinny should buy a racing wheel. He definitely shouldn't buy this racing wheel:
I'm usually anti-peripheral, but I've been thinking of buying a racing wheel for quite some time. I've had nowhere to bolt the wheel onto, but since I moved my consoles to my PC-desk I'd have a perfect place for the wheel and pedals. Forza 3 and Gran Turismo 5 are my most played games on their respected consoles, and I'm a real fan of especially Forza. My current plan is to get a wheel for the release of Forza 4, hopefully Microsoft will bring the Wireless Wheel back to the market. And I wouldn't buy the wheel if I was using assists, but since I've stripped all assists from Forza and am driving with manual transmission I really feel that I need to buy that wheel to reach that extra level of control.
EDIT: So yeah Vinny, buy that wheel if you feel like you play enough racing games.
YES Vinny!!
Buy a racing wheel if you damn well please.
Just buy a nice one.
I'm talkin 3 hundo +
Are people against them because they just can't actually handle using them?
Most of my casual gamer friends are against them too cuz all they do is crash when trying mine.
I beat them using a wheel while they supposedly get the upper hand with a gamepad.

But I still don't think Vinny should buy a racing wheel. He definitely shouldn't buy this racing wheel:
I want it...
Vinny you should buy this wheel!
I also really want to hear the Bombcast where Vinny admits he bought a racing wheel. I believe that will be the Bombcast that finally makes Jeff snap. He'll just get up, gently place his headphones on the table, leave the room, leave the building, and walk off into the desert... never to be heard from again.
As far as I can tell, Vinny's not exactly a "car guy" in real life. As such, a racing wheel is sure to be frivolous. Also, if you go back and watch the Dirt 2 Quick Look, Dave Snider, who's ordinarily a racing wheel advocate, claims that this particular series is unplayable with a wheel. Never question Dave Snider, Vinny; don't buy the racing wheel!
Should Vinny buy a racing wheel? Probably not.
Should people who are really into sim and "simmy" racing games buy a racing wheel? Yeah, probably.
