This has gotten to the point that I had to make a thread about it. Right around E3 I noticed that the videos being put out were having these strange graphical glitches. Even yesterday's UPF has these blemishes. It's really starting to detract from my experience. Most commonly I see a small part of the screen have artifacting, but lately I'm also seeing it do these crazy flashes of grey. When I comment in videos about what I'm seeing other users are responding saying they are glad to hear it isn't just them, so obviously it isn't just me either. Video on every other site I've tried has been completely fine. I'm including some pictures of what I'm seeing straight from this Quick Look. If any of you other duders are seeing the same stuff, please make it known.

So, is it possible some video equipment is not working correctly recently? Did something take a hit traveling to and from E3? @drewbert

It's not just you. I see the same artifacts occurring on the Payday 2 Quick Look on both the site's streaming versions and on YouTube. I've noticed this on others videos, too.

I've also been experiencing similar video issues recently when watching on my Roku 3. The recent Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition Quick Look actually crashes on the Roku 3 at some point after the 7 minute mark (around 7:20 I think - Roku 3 doesn't include a seconds counter so I just manually counted it).

Also, there's still an issue with the resuming video bug for the Roku 3 app. If you stop a video for any reason, the resume and start from beginning buttons don't work for that video unless you completely exit out of the Giant Bomb application.

Yep, I've been getting the same artifacting on multiple devices.

I'll flag this for the video guys and the encoder guys, last I heard nothing had changed on the back end, but clearly something messed up is happening.

Yeah, I'm getting artifacts as well. I started seeing them in the E3 night show archives. I'm also having an issue where audio becomes out of sync in the HTML5 player, but not the streaming player. Probably not related to each other, but still a video issue.

@periahdark: I'm also having the audio sync issue on the HTML5 player, which starts fine and slowly slides more and more out of sync as the video goes on.

I'm seeing the artifacts too, both on my XBMC and just in the browser

I'm also getting the same thing that deaditelord mentioned, specifically with the DMC4 QL.

Well, something clearly changed because since The Escapists PS4 QL there are different bitrates available for download.

@szlifier: Hmm... yeah those bitrates are kinda high. We'll look into it.

I've only noticed these from the E3 videos onward. Any chance something got damaged in transit?

Yep aware. Thanks for reports, should be able to fix this, but might take a couple of days to have old videos re-encoded.

I'm having audio sync issues and some artifacting on all GB West videos. GB East doesn't seem to have any problems for me.

It may just be a Roku 3 issue but I've been having issues where sometimes after about 10-15 min the video will start stuttering while the audio plays perfectly. Backing out to the main menu and going back to the fix usually fixes it for good, but sometimes it keeps happening after another 10-15

Just want to note that I have been having the same observation. Seems isolated to GB West videos (and is ongoing).

Yes this is happening to me with HD downloads as well.

The HTML5 audio sync issue has always existed that I know of. I've never not that problem. And it's really too bad as HTML5 video takes a lot less battery than flash does on my machines.

Avatar image for mirado

@sil3n7: Yes, I can confirm that too. It's starting to really bug me, as I usually download things I've missed to watch when I travel, and this issue is killing my enjoyment of most GB content.

Huh, I totally assumed the audio sync/video artifacting issues were on my end. Huzzah... I guess?

I want to say it only happens in newer videos, but I haven't been watching much 'classic GB' content recently to compare.

I assumed that the audio sync issues was a file issue and never thought of trying the flash player, thanks for the info. Now I can watch mgs 4 properly.

I wonder if the local copies are broken too. If yes, then stop recording and figure this thing out before there is more than a month worth of broken videos. GBEast isn't affected and would still produce content, so if you need to go on a hiatus, then go ahead.
@drewbert What is going on?

Just want to add my name to the pile - still having issues with HTML5 videos freaking out and losing sync over time.

Avatar image for vitz

The HTML5 player desyncing over time is an entirely separate issue that's been around since its inception. Apparently the issue has been identified and will be fixed for future videos.

The glitches, however, have only been around since E3. The first Metal Gear Scanlon 4 episode in particular seems to suffer from it. It's not quite ruining the experience, but it is quite annoying.

Hey guys,

We know of the issue and are making changes to video encoding. Some of the encoding stuff changed and we need some data from the video guys and then standardized encoding and the issues should be resolved.

Thanks for the reporting.

@unastrike: Yes, it still happens. I have a couple of timestamps:

0:29:36

0:34:32

0:42:23

It's just from about 20 minutes I watched.

I've been noticing this with some videos, too. I thought maybe it was a VLC glitch with downloaded videos. Here's one I found in Metal Gear Scanlon 4 Part 1 at 12:19. (This was downloaded video, not streamred.)

I am watching the new Alt-F1 video and it looks like the video glitches are in this one too, but maybe it was recorded and/or encoded before you fixed it in the Smite video (I have not watched that one so can't say if it fixed but people have said it looks to be)

I've had this as well. Lately I've also been having trouble with archived videos. I've been going through and watching TnT and multiple videos (such as the BLOPS 2 and DC V. MK) stop playing and go back to the launch video screen, at certain times. They always stop at the same time stamp. I know others had this issue with some recent vids as well, such as DMC 4.

But we don't know which point in their production pipeline causes it. A video might be recorded on a certain date but edited on another.
