It didn't work for me for a long time, now at the moment it is working. So I thought I post this as it might help to solve it.

I'm still having major trouble streaming video no matter which option I use. Streaming, progressive, html5 all lag behind every 5 seconds. :|

I already posted here before. I thought it'd improve by now since the website launch but unfortunately that's not the case.

Have no problems with twitch on 720+ on live streams nor youtube so if I had to guess I'd probably say the problem lies on the new giant bomb server, the old one was way better in performance. Even download videos from the site is a pain and takes a long long time and I have 30mbps download here.

Does anyone else have ridiculously low download numbers on the San Francisco Speedtest servers compared to anywhere else in the country? I just tested Minnesota, New Jersey, Florida, Texas, Washington and even LA servers at 50-60 Mb/s, but San Jose is under 30, San Francisco is 5-10 and Palo Alto was at 1.

My video streaming was all totally fine prior to a couple days ago; is there just something wrong with San Francisco's internet in general? I'm on Comcast by the way.

@andmm: Sorry for the continued troubles. We're working with Akamai to try and log some of the problems we have on our end. We're still in the "talking to Akamai" phase of resolving this, but hopefully when they see some real data on our end indicating that they're serving up videos poorly for a lot of our readers, they'll be able to do something about it. Apologies again; this even affects a few staff members at home, so it's definitely something we want to resolve. Since we're working with a third party vendor, though, some things have to wait for them.

Man getting really, really awful speeds tonight. Not on my end as I was just downloading from Steam at 3.6MB/s.

Trying to watch Fuse Quick Look, letting it buffer for 15 minutes gave me all of 30 seconds of video.

Holy cow the video player is really bad. From slow speeds, to the inaccuracy of seeking (the interval levels as well as where the mouse actually goes) I'm beginning to resort to watching all the videos on YouTube. :(

hey all, I need some people who have good/great speeds (for example your Steam/XBLA/PSN downloads are really good) but have bad streaming / progressive experiences. Please PM me (looking to have you install some proxy software so we can look into issues).

thanks!

My internet is pretty slow. (5mb internet package)

Overall i have had tons of issues with the new video player. The progressive "LOW" setting on the new stuff is now EXTREMELY compressed, making the videos nearly unwatchable due to the poor quality. However, the "HIGH" is very beautiful, but my internet isn't fast enough to allow for progressive play of "HIGH" without giving the video a 30 minute headstart for loading. That's annoying. "Streaming" seems to work on a case by case basis. Sometimes it will work for an entire video, but it will skip a good 3 seconds of video every once in a while. Sometimes, it buffers constantly.

I don't know who is responsible for building the video players for GiantBomb, but whoever that person is, you should invest more time into doing it.

I used to be able to watch videos on "high", "low" and "stream" with zero problems.

@mrpibb: My internet is currently at 40mb down 10 up. I don't know if that qualifies as a great speed, but I am also experiencing problems with the videos no matter which option i choose. I would be happy to install something to help you resolve the issue.

My internet is slow (about 1 Mbps), but I can usually watch on HTML5 Low without much problem. But in the last couple weeks, I've noticed that video quality is pretty poor, especially in action-heavy scenes. Practically unwatchable for things like GRID2, or when I went back to watch some Bradley May Cry. When there's not much motion, quality is decent. The videos seem to load fine (without much buffering) at that speed, but the quality has gone down.

I don't know exactly when this started happening. I think the quality was still okay when I watched the Crash Course 2 quick look, which was out on May 10.

I'm using Chrome in Windows 7, if that makes any difference.

*Edit* I know a still can't tall you a lot, but here's what I'm seeing:

I just started having problems with the videos about a week ago. I used to be able to play HD on the HTML5 just fine. Now it will pause for about 10 seconds and then play video for 5 seconds on everything(progressive, HTML5)streaming seems too be ok but it changes the quality 5-8 times on an hour video.

Yeesh, until I started combing through all these video threads I thought it was just me these last months. I have the exact same problems and speed connection. Glad to know there are way more tech savvy members than me helping looking into it, because, man, it's bad.

The weirdest part is that this only happens on my wifi. My pc connected to the router with ethernet has no issues. But it's not an issue of the wifi speed as shown by the speedtest. So I dunno. I just hope this gets fixed eventually. It's been so long since I've been able to watch premium videos in my room.

Yeah Ive also found almost all giantbomb content to be unwatchable now with the player. I have been having to use youtube. It seems to be working fine but then the audio will repeat and then the video will have speed up it does all sorts of weird things now. Ive really wanted to stream those daily dotas but have been completely shut down. I hope this gets fixed soon.

Yeah, I had 100/100mbit full duplex in my last apartment. Progressive 2H HD videos loaded fully in a minute or two whilst streaming was always at the lowest quality, except for maybe 10% at the time when it popped up to HD. Still having this problem.

I've been having really slow downloads for the last week or two. Right now I'm downloading LOLS at 190kb/s when I used to be able to download videos at more than 1mb/s. I've a 100mbps connection and from Singapore.

EDIT: My download speed just fell to 80kb/s and it seems like it's staying there.
