Dan Ryckert food comics

Every week I look forward to hearing what new, strange tidbit is unearthed about Giant Bomb's most American hero Dan Ryckert, especially his food stories. Seriously, let's get a premium stream going where we feed him horrors like house salads. Anyways, the one story about him making "egg whites" really affected me, to the point that I had to draw a little comic about it:

I have another comic sketched out too--hint: shoebox surprises--so I'll update this thread with it too once I get around to inking and coloring, which is the slower process. I welcome others to share their own Dan drawings too!

EDIT #2, based on Dan's scary realization that he could eat 100% biodegradable cutlery made from corn and potato starch. Not that he should, of course.

I like how he sleeps on a floor mattress and has chipped walls but has a clean chef's uniform.

Why do I feel that bedroom is scarily accurate?

Great job! The term egg whites has always confounded me because they are transparent uncooked and why would you ever just use one part of the egg?

I've had vague 'fantasies' of living a dishwashing free life and finally Dan has become a leading example for all of us.

I hope Dan is a good sport about humiliation but I fear the 'in-jokes' might stick too well (Brad). I guess I'm saying "Don't be a jerk".

@thesquarepear: I hope so too! These aren't meant to be malicious at all!

My only criticism is that it's not clear that he cracked the eggs and poured them down the sink.

It just needs something mentioning egg whites somewhere and you got yourself a classic for the ages.

I could even imagine seeing it in a newspaper.

This is fantastic. Needs more Mickey's bottles in the background though.

I hope the shoebox comic goes after the fact he didn't use the cover of the shoebox.

That really needed more attention.

@pabba: This is amazing! The tear is so perfect! You should add that to the initial post so that people see it without having to look through the thread. Not everyone is going to have the patience to do that.

But this is just as good as what I thought this was going to be.

Considering that Dan volunteers most of this stuff and revels in the ridiculousness when he's telling it, I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Exactly. He even sounds totally willing to try new stuff. Didn't he suggest the premium stream where Brad and Drew feed him new foods? They seem like they usually know what they're talking about when it comes to food, so that might be pretty interesting for the audience and tasty for Dan.

@pabba: Not trying be a dick, because I genuinely love these, but does Dan wear glasses? I'm just saying, I haven't seen him wear them before, but maybe I'm just wrong.

Also, wasn't that Butt Tumblr thing mentioned on an E3 Bombcast? Was Dan a guest on an episode? That seemed so familiar.

@hatking: I thought I saw him wearing them when battling Jeff in Street Fighter II, so maybe when he's on the couch and far from the TV screens he needs his bi-focals. I like drawing them on him. Rorie and Vinny sometimes wear glasses too, as does Brad I believe.

Haha... Totally cool, I wasn't trying to be rude or anything. He probably just wears contacts most of the time, seems like most people do these days anyway. The art is super charming, and I hope you continue doing this stuff. Hopefully they give you more fuel each week. : )

The mattress on the floor in the background of that first comic was enough for me, that's perfect and pretty close to how I imagine his descriptions. This is great work, man!

Like everyone else, after the initial shock of Dan's utter Midwestern-ness wore off, I'm totally excited to see more Dan content.

@pabba: I'd say you need to make a comic about Dan's dental story, from his The Last of Us stream last night, but I don't need more nightmares. Experiencing it in an audio form was bad enough.

@bisonhero: Oh no, I didn't get to watch that stream! Think it'll be archived on the site?

@pabba: He was streaming from home, seemed kinda spur of the moment, so I don't think he necessarily was gonna archive it? I'm not sure I saw anybody ask him. There might be an archive on Twitch? He did say that he might try to share the story on the Bombcast if it came up for some reason. It's kind of not a fun story! On top of the super not cool part, he mentioned that like, a ton of his teeth have crowns, and a couple have been pulled and replaced with artificial teeth. And that he's been pretty close to having diabetes according to his doctor, based on blood sugar or whatevs.
