Aliases allow users to find games under different names or acronyms that they are commonly referred to as. 

For example, Star Wars: The Old Republic has the following aliases:

SWOR
SWTOR
KOTOR MMO
Star Wars MMO

You can see for yourself how an alias works by typing one of the above nicknames for The Old Republic in the search window in the upper right corner of your screen.  Try putting in Star Wars MMO...as you can see, it immediately finds the correct game. 

Since aliases affect Giant Bomb's search engine a great deal, please only request to add or remove an Alias if it is critical for the page you're suggesting it for.  Aliases need to be used sparingly so the search engine doesn't get completely filled with bad results - this is why Alias is and will remain a staff-only field.  I'll use The Old Republic again as a good example.  Since this title is new, many people may not know it's called The Old Republic, but they may know that there is a Star Wars MMO in the works and in this case, the alias is a success and guides them to the correct place.

When requesting a change to an Alias, please provide the name of the game, a link to the Wiki page, the alias change you wish to make, and a brief reason you think the change should be made.  Your request will be reviewed as soon as possible and if the changes seem justifiable, it'll be done.

Please include aliases of Vivendi Universal Games and VU Games.  Both of these monikers were used earlier in the 2000's.

Hokuto Musou should have the alias Fist of the North Star.  It's supposedly not the game's final English title (yet), but Koei's European offices referred to the game as such when they announced the European release.

Since it appears this page is a consolidation of all things Namco (before and after the merger with Bandai), it should also have an alias for Namco Hometek and Namco Limited.

His alias should be General Knoxx, and his real name should be Alphonso Knoxx.
 
 Mod Note - I added Alphonso Knoxx as the alias, because this character is most commonly referred to as General, not Alphonso. Searching for either one will now return the appropriate page, thanks for the suggestion! - MB

Sovereign. Add Nazara as an alias or real name. I'm leaving a request here because I'm not definite if it should be under real name or alias. Either works fine so I leave the judgement up to you. (Alias would be my preference if you need to know).
 
While you're at it - Mass Effect 3. Add ME3 as an alias, if it isn't too early for that game. Thanks.

And I don't know if you can make aliases for alternate names in different localizations, but his name in the Japanese version is: "Shiryuu Rou"

Fairly straightforward one, the page for the original Resident Evil has "REmake" listed as an alias, but that is a name that is used to refer to the GameCube remake of Resident Evil.
 
This is especially annoying because just searching for "Resident Evil" brings up every game in the series, and the Gamecube remake is not one of the listings on the drop-down, so you have to go to the franchise page to get to it.  
 
Please move the "REmake" alias from the Playstation original to the Gamecube game.

I would like two aliases on the FlaK 88 page changed.
 

  • PaK 88 > PaK 43
  • KwK 88 > KwK 43
 
The 88 describes the calibre, which is already in the FlaK 88 name. The PaK and KwK is variants of the 88mm FlaK. 43 is their version number.

Arc The Lad: End of Darkness is also known as "Arc The Lad: Generation アークザラッド ジェネレーション" in Japan. Can someone please add the alias for that? I'm not sure if the Japanese and English are together but it might be a better idea to add them as two seperate aliases. Cheers.
