A Farewell to Drew Scanlon Thread

There goes the youngest person on Giant Bomb...

He's been part of Giant Bomb for what now, eight years at this point? Damn, I'm gonna miss him. I have really good memories watching Flight Club with my friends. Godspeed, Drew.

Good luck, Drew. I hope we can still get some Alt-F1 action, even if I have to subscribe to NoClip in order to get it. Like many others, I really enjoy Drew's contributions to the site, and I never would have gotten into F1 without him. He will certainly be missed, but hopefully he can still pop in to the office on occasion for the random guest appearance.

Oh very sad news. It's made even worse when it's one of the long term staffers. Austin leaving after a year wasn't so much of a biggy for me, but after 8 years you just assume the ones like Drew, Vinny, Brad will be around for ever and ever, but I guess they all will depart the office one day.

Thinking about it now after the announcement, I guess Drew's tie to video games is perhaps the thinnest and video production is clearly his thing, so if wherever he's going lets him do even more of that in a greater capacity than GB allowed him, than all the best to him!

I hope this doesn't mean we lose Drew from in front of the camera at least in some manner. Will be missed.

And as Jeff kinda mentions on the podcast; the whole meme thing happening right now is the icing on the cake, really.

@lanechanger: I meant him leaving the west coast, the chemistry between vinny and the rest of the West Coast crew was great. Plus he was great on the bomb cast. Luckily we can still hear him on the beast cast but it's not the same

Honestly I don't know if enough can be said for the work Drew did after Ryan passed away. He did a damn good job stepping up and becoming one of the site's personalities. Seriously huge props to him and I wish him all the best where ever he wants to go

I'm not sure how likely this is to be seen but here goes: I still remember us chatting video production after a PAX East panel. It was for fifteen minutes or so. I was awkward as hell because I was still learning the process as a college sophomore, not fully knowing my terms and kit, but you were extremely helpful and it helped to motivate me. I have a job in the production field now. :)

Seeing one of the original group go is incredibly sad. Drew has been such a big part of the sites history that a Giantbomb without him is going to be really weird. He also created some of my favorite recent Premium content in the form of Demo Derby and Metal Gear Scanlon.

Did not expect that, at least not yet.. feels so out of nowhere. He's become such a key figure on the site. Hearing Jeff lament for so long about how he wants to grow the site and get more people and now it seems they losing as many or more than they gain, feelsbad. With how crazy long the hiring process seems to take and how stingy CBSi seems to be, I guess the SF office is going to be super short handed for several months at least.. I mean Dan (or Austin) still hasn't even been replaced yet and now Drew is leaving who seems even more critical to the SF office.

Wonder whats going on with CBSi... seems like a nonstop train of Giantbomb and Gamespot employees leaving over the past year.

Best of luck to Drew wherever he's going, awesome duder who deserves success. Hope Giantbomb can find someone to fill those giant shoes, someday.

Drew is such a special snowflake on this site. He's like this perfect mix of a not-hardcore gamer/regular guy but still a gamer/tech guy/adventurer. And kinda the only person interested in technical car stuff. Planes. Machines. Giant Bomb doesn't have a real knowledgeable car dude who will do sims and try to understand more than just turning left and right.

And his subtle humor is a great contrast to the rest of the guys. And I've NEVER heard him curse! Its crazy. He's like this beautifully blonde boy wonder.. vs jeff and dan's sinister evilness..

And ugh poor Vinny. Hes going to take it rough. He must've known for some time, but I remember him talking about Drew within the past few months and saying how awesome he is to have for help and wouldn't be able to survive this stuff without him having his back. Im tearing up thinking about it. Those two were a super team over the years. Usually behind the scenes and they don't get enough credit.

Best of luck man. No one will be able to fill your fancy shoes.

GIANT BOMB LOVE DREW

I kinda knew this was coming eventually, him being the youngest personality there. It was fun to watch him grow into his own both professionally and as an on-screen talent. His calm, clean-cut personality contrasted really well with the others and made his subtle (and not-so-subtle) breaks from that persona that much more hilarious. When Ryan passed and Vinny moved, Drew quickly and effortlessly took up the void left by their absence in SF and has become one of the best personalities in all of the industry.

This hurts. It hurts a lot. Drew is one of the most unique guys at Giant Bomb, losing him feels like losing an arm.

Looking forward to whatever he does next, but I hope he stops by UPF from time to time.

I've been a premium member on GB for some time and never once have posted here on the forums, but this news compels me to do so.

So saddened to see Drew go. My favourite member of the team, and certainly the one whose interests aligned with my own the most.

Not gonna lie, as a fan his absence will be keenly felt. His one line interjections on the Bombcast are fantastic and I really like how different his taste is from the rest of the West crew. Hopefully Vinny picks up the baton for flight sims and assorted gaming oddities from European countries.

He was tremendous to the show, added a quality perspective.

Man, and I was JUST thinking with the last UPF "Man, Drew has really come into his own here, he's like part of the Giant Bomb foundation" and I actually wondered if he'd be like, the last member of original Giant Bomb some 10-15 years down the line. I did not expect this.

It really does feel a bit like a gut punch, but the man's gonna do what he's gonna do! Hope it'll be something awesome, Drew. And I hope GB West can find the right hires they need sooner rather than later, these are some big shoes to fill.

The site won't be the same without Drew, but I wish him the best of luck in whatever he goes on to do from here. Drew is good people.

This is crazy, never saw it coming... Feels nearly as weird as it would be to see Brad or Vinny leave. Of course I wish him all the best etc. but man, this sucks. Drew bought a great and very different personality to most everyone else. I wonder what GB will look like after all the new hires, seems like a pretty pivotal moment for the site.
