A game that I really enjoyed was GTA IV, albeit not as crazy and as many customizable options at GTA :SA, It did focus a lot more on story and actually had a protagonist that had some sense of morality. However most of my friends and people on the internet tend to hate it for being not as similar as GTA:SA.

What game do you guys love but everyone seems to hate?

Dragon Age 2. It wasn't as epic as Origins, and I don't think Bioware made the DA2 party members as engaging/fun to be around as Sten, Morrigan, or Alistair, but I really liked it.

I think people warmed up to GTA IV over time. And while I'm not going to waste time googleing it, there are thrid party visual mods out for GTA IV on the PC that objectively make it the best looking game on the market by miles. I didn't like SR: 3, I barely put 6 hours in it. I have no clue how many hours I've put into GTA IV and the expansion, but I definitely broke 100. So, you're not compeltely alone :).

As for me, I really enjoy ArmA 2....with about 200 other people on the planet.

I find GTA4 to be extremely well-liked, and many consider it to be the best in the series, so I'd say your friends are a minority.

@Oldirtybearon: Agreed, I wouldn't say I loved it but I liked it. That being said if DA3 is anything like it I might throw an internet hissy fit.

@Oldirtybearon:

The most recent example I agree. The only bad thing was the small world making you go back to the same places over and over really brought it down. However, everything else was IMO solid.

The First Templar had a pretty good time playing it on co-op, pretty much got panned. Crackdown 2 also in co-op. Some good larfs can be had with a friend over xbl playing those 2.

Just to contribute to the OP I disliked the GTA IV offline and Niko did my head in. Good fun online.

I don't think everyone else hated it, but Assassin's Creed. Some people make it sound like it's the worst game ever. I thought it was a very fun, groundbreaking experience with gorgeous graphics. The game did get repetitive, but the traversal and murdering dudes was so much fun, not to mention the intriguing plot. As far as the rest of the games go it's the least great, not the worst.

Even though the Elder Scrolls games are far from detested, I may be one of the only champions of Oblivion and Skyrim's combat engines. Sure, whaling on someone for a minute with a gigantic ax might not be the most tactical combat ever, but it's still damn fun to watch.

Also, ODST is far and away my favorite Halo game, despite the public consensus being the exact opposite.

Oddly enough, El Shaddai, given the number of people who have directly told me how bad it is. (Or maybe it was just one really loud person. Or both.)

Since FF12 has already been mentioned, I guess I'll go ahead and admit that I also honestly enjoyed FFX-2. I'd gladly play it again and probably still like it just as much as I did all those years ago.

I remember playing Devil May Cry 2 and not finding it all that bad. Although I can't say I could tolerate it now. I guess I'll find out when the Devil May Cry HD collection drops.

Definitely DAII, I think that game gets SO much undue hatred and vitriol.

But a game that I really, really enjoyed even in spite of the game itself was Alpha Protocol. I get that it's by no means a POLISHED or INTUITIVE or WORKING (in some cases) game, but there's just SOMEthing about it that has brought me back three entire play-throughs. And a fourth would get me an S-rank, so I'm seriously considering it!

@Toms115: I loved EOE too. What an odd game, but it was the first 3d button mashing game I had. All I remember about it now is that your girlfriend was in your sword and the main fodder enemies looked like Agents from The Matrix.

Also, Mirror's Edge, N3 Ninety Nine Nights on 360. And Oni on PS2. Anyone else liked that game? It was developed by Bungie and published by Rockstar.

Oh and thinking about my ps2 games, I enjoyed The Bouncer too.

Driver 3. I really liked the driving in the game and use to play the free roam mode having police chases and it was a ton of fun. The damage model on the cars was quite good too.

FFX-2's saving grace was the combat. It had some of the most exciting battles in the series, and was basically what kept me going.

Also, Final Fantasy XII is the best Final Fantasy. /truth

@upwarDBound: It was fun while it lasted, but by the time I finished the game I wanted nothing to do with it. The repatative tasks killed it for me. If climbing around and fighting dudes wasn't so fun that game I never would of finished that game.

I personally loved brutal legend. I didn't know much about the game aside from its original demo so the RTS stuff didn't throw me off at all.

I have really fond memories of that game. One of the first stealth games that I enjoyed and actually wanted to take the time to be patient. The bosses were weird though. I remember there being a boss on a boat that was super hard unless you tossed a bomb at him as he appeared and knocked him into the water for a one-hit KO... or something like that.

It did get repetitive, there wasn't much story (if any), the co-op was always laggy as hell for me, and it had its fair share of flaws. But I've always been a fan of the series, so I had a good time just playing the game. I really should go back and finish it one of these days.
