A genre of a game you're tired out from and had your fill?

Have you guys recently been burned out or you're tired from a genre of a game that's becoming too often lately?

For me, I can't believe I'm saying this but I've recently had a massive reluctance to play open-world games these days. I'm sure it's currently a phase and I'll be enjoying open world games again soon but every time I'm playing one (most recently Far Cry 4), seeing all the markers on a map popping up and the content spread around really puts me off and I've had a craving of just playing something linear and straight forward. Resident Evil 4 has been satisfying this craving more immensely these past couple of days.

What about you guys?

I burnt out on competitive multiplayer shooters (and competitive multiplayer in general, for the most part) after MW2. I played a lot of COD4 and MW2 and after that have had absolutely zero interest in going back to those. Part of it is i've never been one for much competitive multiplayer anyway, but I did love it in those games and then was done.

Third person action. God of War 3 was kinda my last. After that, with the exception of the Arkham games, I haven't cared for any.

Open world games, for sure. I have ZERO interest in Shadow of Mordor and my girlfriend recently bought Black Flag and even though it'd be my first AC game since II (which I loved) I couldn't stomach more than an hour of it. The only games I've really gotten into recently are MGS2-4, Strider, Costume Quest 2, Diablo III, Smash Wii U, and Super Mario 3D World.

Competitive multiplayer shooter. I'm just no good unless it's an N64 controller (and being a lefty really helps there). I enjoyed the first Modern Warfare for a month or so but was burned out after that, I suppose I liked Killzone 2 for a little also. Surprised no other games have stolen that shuffle mechanic.

I do play Destiny's Crucible when the Iron Banner is open but only until I complete whatever the easiest bounties are, generally 10,000 XP and kill 25 of a certain type of person. Takes me an hour or so.

Same here. I just couldn't get into any third person style open world games this past year.

Didn't we just have a "pick one genre you have to kill" thread that effectively devolved into this thread?

Anyways!

I have seen a ton of posts on this site and ze internet and they all amount to this very data driven analysis I will represent to you here:

In the last 10 years, far too many open world games where you collect 1000 feathers/towers/hats/chests/artifacts have been made. 8/10 gamers are tired.

Open world is also a bit of a wrapper that you can ensconce other genres within so the fatigue level is just soaring for me. @mbradley1992 mentioned 3rd Person Action Games. And I would say I agree, but only when those games are wrapped in an Open World. For example, Shadow of Mordor and AC Unity. I just replayed Gears of War recently, another 3rd Person Action Game and its linearity was beautiful.

Like @davidh219 I am definitely feeling myself more and more inclined to play something straightforward and linear, or at least short. May I present to you exhibit A, Way of the Samurai.

Opening up a map and seeing a jillion billion items and quests and areas to explore is just exhausting at this point. Like walking into a daycare and hearing the screams of a million children cry out at once.

I just tired of racing games, I dunno. It's been 8-9 years since I've played one.

I sorta agree with this, but I think it's just because I am starting to find the worlds just very uninspired. Easily the worst part of Shadow of Mordor is I just think all the maps are boring. The benefit over Assassin's Creed that I like is the combat takes a little more planning and skill (not much). I find the reimagining of locales sorta more interesting from the AC series but just everything about those games I think is boring. I'm sorta surprised I played through two of them, and even the second one took a few tries to get me.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've read all day.

Remember back in 05 and 06 when everyone was saying they were tired of WWII shooters? That's how I feel about zombies now. Also, I kind of miss WWII shooters. I feel like shooters have made some progress over the past 8 or 9 years and the WWII backdrop could really be freshened up by the modernization.

I kinda want a break from the first person perspective in general. I recently had a choice between Far Cry 4, Alien Isolation and Assassin's Creed Unity and I went with Unity despite all it's problems because I was getting tired of first person games. I don't think I am done with them completely, but a break would be nice(This is probably more a personal break from them but that's about the only genre that I am completely tired of.).

@geraltitude: I am aware of that thread but I feel that this thread is asking a different question. Not as much killing off entirely, just what genre you are a bit tired off at the moment. For example, I wouldn't think about killing off open world games entirely as it can be amazing and super impressive most of the time but I'm just a bit tiresome of the genre at the moment just by the vast amount that is available right now and the amount of content so overwhelmingly present.

The Ubisoft formula game.

I hope the fact that the best Ubisoft formula game yet is Shadow of Mordor, a title which Ubisoft themselves were wholly uninvolved with, is sending them back to the drawing board.

Combat-focused Open World, I guess. I can't wait for Fallout 4. But Far Cry 3, Sleeping Dogs, those kinds of games--I just can't bring myself to even make progress.
