I just realized something that I normally should have a long long LONG time ago, I just noticed that there have been a handful of Action RPGs that were recently released and a few more to come. Games like Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, and other upcoming games like Fallout 3 and Fable 2 are leaning more towards the Action RPGs.

I dunno, do you think that more games like these are going to head towards this direction?

I'm not saying that the Turn-Based RPGs will be dead in like a few years but still i can't help but wonder. Although my first impressions of an Action RPG were lukewarm for me. My first game was the first .hack and that to me was very boring. Then I tried again when I played games like Mass Effect and currently playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and now l love it! Of course I can't call myself an RPG player without playing some turned based games. I have played FF8, Legend of Dragoon, FF10, and D&D (good times), and alot of others. The only real issue that I have with Action RPGs is that sometimes I don't see how the RPG elements fit in with the Action component. What kind of balance is present when playing games like these?

Could someone please enlighten me on this?

What do you mean, what kind of balance? The question is ambiguous.

Are you asking if the few Action RPGs will lead to more Action RPGs to come?

Well, there are probably a lot more aRPGs in popular circulation than you'd think. They've taken a resounding preference lead over jRPGs in recent years.

Well, I'm for Action RPGs. It seems to me all the other kinds generally involve a lot of repetitive grinding and lame "role playing" elements (ironic, I know) then having some fun doing some fighting and shit.

I would much rather play an action RPG over a turn-based RPG. I have always felt like turn-based RPGs are less of a game...though there are plenty that I love.

Turn-based RPGs are generally pretty piss-poor from my experience. They use turn-basedness to avoid creativity.
