So I go to gamestop today to pre-order gears 2 so i can pick it up later tonight (i wasn't able to get the limited edition, anyone want to give me their code for the golden lancer?) and I decided to go ahead and pick up 12 months of xbox live. Now that, by itself, costs 50$. That's like 54$ with tax. So the guy goes and grabs a starter kit that has a year of live, a game, a headset, and a keyboard. It costs 70$. (A little more with tax.) He charges me for it. He opens it up, and takes out everything but the year of live. He then uses my edge card (which gets me +20% on used trade-ins) and adds the money that all that stuff is worth to my account, which totals around 20$. Then he gives me the year of live card. So I pretty much saved a dollar or two. The store now gets to sell all that "used" equipment at a much higher price, so gamestop gained like 50$ on the transaction.
EDIT: just to clarify: i actually saved a few $. he did all this with my approval.

adventures at your local gamestop...
Dude, I would've gone somewhere else for the year of Live. You realize that he gypped you out of 20 bucks, right? 20 bucks that you now HAVE to spend at Shitstop...20 bucks of what is now fake money.
its really weird that there are so many things online of weird things workers do at gamestop but every time i go to gamestop its other gamers working there and there smart....
"I've never done that at my GameStop. What do we have to gain, as employees, from doing this? Nothing. You should have stopped him and told him all you wanted was Live. I would call GS corporate on this matter and report the employee. Unless it was me, I'm amazing."he didn't rip me off. he actually saved me a few bucks. i did say it was okay to do that.
I won't buy anything used from gamestop. The reason: back in the day I traded in a PS2 for an Xbox. They offered me between $1-5 for each of my games. I walked over and saw them selling the same games for $20-40 and said no thanks. Then I sold them all on craigslist for...$20-40. In a day.
So, while I wander in every now and then, unless they have an amazing deal (which is rare, though I've seen them match amazon on some older stuff) I don't buy anything there.
